Job Summary
The application engineer I assists with translating business requirements and functional specifications into data solutions, assists with implementation and maintenance of data-focused business applications, and supports systems integration testing.
Platte River is seeking to hire one individual who can multi-task and adapt to meet evolving needs. This entry-level position is ideal for recent graduates or early-career professionals working in enterprise IT who enjoy collaborative work and are interested in data engineering solutions using Python, SQL and Fivetran.
We are building a cutting-edge data lakehouse in Azure Databricks with Unity Catalog to ensure seamless integration with systems of record and centralize data accessibility and security controls. Schedule and Environment
This position works a typical Monday through Friday schedule and is eligible for hybrid workdays within a commutable distance of Fort Collins. Work is performed in an office setting and requires minimal effort to occasionally lift and carry light objects.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Models the mission, vision, values, and culture of the organization.
Works directly with software applications throughout their lifecycle to ensure they work well, are user-friendly, reliable, secure, and perform efficiently, with general supervision.
Develops software applications based on set standards, specifications, and timelines.
Monitors, debugs, and optimizes applications to boost performance and reliability.
Installs and sets up software for users, providing necessary training.
Works with IT staff, vendors, consultants, and customers to define specifications, schedule and implement updates, and troubleshoot issues.
Creates and maintains documentation.
Helps enforce software licensing and usage policies.
Offers support, assistance, and technical guidance to users and IT team members.
Participates in various projects, sometimes leading smaller, less complex ones with some guidance.
Collaborates with customers to understand their business needs and develop quality solutions.
Analyzes and resolves issues in support of existing applications and projects.
Other Functions
Offers technical support and expertise in data engineering.
Resolves Service Desk tickets.
Occasionally delivers presentations or training sessions to staff.
Collaborates with colleagues and customers to promote software, applications, or data solutions that meet current and future business needs.
Conducts research and provides input on business processes, development options, and third-party software applications.
Suggests appropriate third-party solutions or services when needed and interacts with providers to secure them.
Works with other staff to address continuity planning considerations.
Occasionally works evenings, weekends, after hours, or on-call for events (scheduled and unscheduled).
Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge
Strong understanding of programming languages, development environments, cloud platforms, development methods, best practices, and SDLC.

Proficient in delivering reliable and secure IT solutions with excellent customer service.

Ability to learn and assimilate new technologies in enterprise applications, data engineering, or software engineering.

How to Qualify
Required Criteria
Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in computer information systems, computer science, software engineering or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Current valid drivers license and ability to remain insurable under the vehicle liability policy.
Preferred Criteria
1 year experience in two of the following areas:
Systems development lifecycle (SDLC) in an Agile, Waterfall or Hybrid environment.
Software engineering programming languages (Python, Java, SQL or similar).
DevOps including automated testing, source control and code migration.
Cloud Platforms (Microsoft Azure, AWS or Google Cloud).
Enterprise applications (Oracle Fusion, SAP, or Microsoft Dynamics).
Data engineering platforms and tools such as Databricks, Snowflake, Microsoft Fabric, Informatica or Fivetran.
Machine Learning (ML) in Databricks, Vertex AI, AWS Sagemaker or Dataiku.
Database management systems (Microsoft SQL Server or Oracle).
Workflow management solutions such as ServiceNow.
Pay
This is an exempt role; salaries are paid bi-weekly. Factors that may be used to determine actual salary include specific skills, years of experience, education, and certifications.
Expected hiring range: $76,426 to $89,816 if annualized.
Full earning range: $76,426 to $103,206 if annualized.
