Job Title: Applications Engineer Cable and Substation Job ID: 81808 Location: Dallas, Texas (remote applicants considered) Overview: This position requires technical knowledge and experience in the design, operation, testing, and maintenance of low-, medium-, and high-voltage cables and substation equipment such as transformers, circuit breakers, CTs, PTs, batteries, and switchgear. What you will be doing: Provide technical support for substation and cable diagnostic testing equipment via phone, in-person visits, demonstrations, and hands-on training. Validate new products by testing hardware and software for various applications; provide feedback for enhancement and improvement. Collaborate with engineering teams on product specifications, applications, and software, contributing to product design and development. Participate in marketing, sales initiatives, and technical conferences or industry meetings. Develop white papers, application notes, and technical articles to support subject matter expertise in the power industry. Deliver presentations on theoretical topics and case studies at conferences and technical events. What you must have: Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering (Masters preferred). 35 years of experience in field testing and commissioning of substation and cable systems, including fault location methods. Hands-on experience with cable design, construction, installation, testing, and maintenance. Knowledge of power system operation and circuit analysis. Strong understanding of utility substation and cable testing practices and procedures. Familiarity with the construction and operation of transformers, circuit breakers, and battery systems. Proficient in performing and interpreting testing of substation assets. Knowledge of relevant industry standards, including IEEE, NETA, IEC, and NERC. Effective public speaker able to communicate complex technical concepts to varied audiences (technicians, engineers, managers, decision-makers). Willingness to travel approximately 50%. Proficient with Windows-based platforms, software installation, PC I/O ports, and Microsoft Office applications. Self-motivated, customer-focused, and driven to deliver high-quality results.
