About This Role
The Associate Controls Engineer will be responsible for design, documentation, and/or programming of building automation systems (BASs) in compliance with project plans and specifications. Proactive communication with project team both internal and external including requests for information (RFIs) and technical risks and opportunities.
Key Responsibilities
Design of complete building automation systems, including the specification and sizing of controllers, electromechanical devices, sensors, networks, and computer hardware.
Creation, where necessary, of sequences of operation for the control of common building systems.
Documentation of the BAS design (i.e. submittals) and revision control of the resultant documents.
Testing of programming and interfaces prior to deployment.
Support of functional testing (commissioning) for building systems.
Final documentation of the building automation system that incorporates all changes made since issuance of the submittal.
Adherence to project requirements and company and customer standards in all aspects of design, programming, and implementation.
Technical support during the selling process to ensure that sales representatives accurately address customer requirements and propose the best possible solutions.
Identification and communication of project opportunities and risks related to cost, time, and technical considerations.
Timely creation of requests for information (RFIs).
Clear communication and proactive expectation setting with manager and project teams both internal and external.
Adherence to safety standards. High regard for employee and subcontractor safety.
Adherence to ethics standards. Exemplifies the Carrier code of ethics.
Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED with 2+ years of HVAC, Controls or Building Automation experience OR Associate Degree in Engineering.
Ability to travel up to 20%.
Capable of climbing ladders or using other lift equipment over 8 feet above grade, and capable of lifting items up to 50lbs.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or higher in an engineering or construction discipline.
Experience in HVAC controls, Building Automation, or related industry.
Basic knowledge of primary functions of building automation system software and associated engineering tools, Automated Logic suites preferred.
Basic knowledge of Automated Logic software, peripherals, add-ons, services, or hardware design.
Understanding and/or experience with IP networks
Understanding and/or experience with Microsoft Visio and/or similar software.
Ability to understand written sequences of operations, diagrammatic depictions of systems.
Familiar with third-party communication protocols used in building automation, such as BACnet, Modbus, SNMP, LON, N2, etc.
Able to translate technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
