Makai Defense is seeking a highly skilled Senior Cybersecurity Engineer to support the Command and Control, Battle Management, and Communications (C3BM) team. This position plays a critical role in ensuring secure system architecture and compliance with Department of Defense (DoD) cybersecurity policies, supporting efforts aligned with national defense objectives. The ideal candidate will present the ability to lead efforts directly associated with the Air Force (AF) C3BM PEO Director of Engineering. Responsibilities include cyber based oversight for the architecture, design, analysis and implementation of digital twin models (for AF networks and systems), support the identification and integration of emerging technologies, and support of a newly designed and approved NetWorthiness process. This position involves working closely with AF senior leaders and cross-functional teams and stakeholders to develop, document, and implement process/task cyber management policies and procedures.
The Cybersecurity Engineer will perform the following duties:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The ideal candidate will be responsible for the end-to-end managing of cyber security directives and implementation requirements of the programs and projects supporting Air Force communications systems.
Serving in a lead role as a lead Cyber Engineer supporting the C3BM team and multiple Mission Integration Teams, a seasoned professional will have the ability to work closely with Senior AF Leaders and cross functional engineering teams, responsible for facilitating Cyber Security processes and managing strategic initiatives that enhance the security posture across mission-critical programs. Your duties will directly support alignment of C3BM policies, tracking program milestones, managing risk, and maintaining clear communication with stakeholders.
- Develop, review, and implement cybersecurity documentation
- Support Cyber Operations, including analysis and implementation of mitigations based on Cybersecurity Service Provider (CSSP) guidance and threat intelligence within a system-of-systems environment
- Serve as subject matter expert in vulnerability management, system hardening, and cyber risk assessments
- Facilitate assessments, audits, and continuous monitoring activities across systems and networks
- Lead and execute cybersecurity activities throughout the system development lifecycle
- Collaborate with government stakeholders and cross-functional teams to align cyber capabilities and mission needs
- Align cyber-wide security requirements with DoD information policies, including Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs), Security Requirements Guide (SRG), and National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) policies
Degree/Education and Training Requirements
- BA/BS in related technical field
Certifications
- DoD 8570 IAT Level III Certification
Experience
- 7+ years of experience
- Develop, review, and implement cybersecurity documentation
- Strong experience with DoD Information Assurance (DI) processes and Risk Management Framework
- Proficient in applying enterprise cybersecurity standards across large-scale DoD or defense-industry systems
- Experience integrating cybersecurity into DevSecOps or Agile engineering environments
- Familiarity with SIEM tools, ACAS, HBSS, and other enterprise monitoring platforms
- Experience integrating cybersecurity into DevSecOps or Agile engineering environments
- Experience performing cyber security analytics in a digital environment, and/or digital modeling environment, and recommending solutions for implementation
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Work will be performed inside a large facility. An inside environment may be a cubicle (considerations: close quarters, low to moderate noise, bright or dim lighting).
- Work assignments vary based on client requirements.
- Sitting at desk. Phone use and PC or laptop. Filing required. May require lifting and carrying boxes of supplies or files up to 25 lbs. Extended periods of sitting while on PC/laptop or phone.
- General office equipment, which includes: telephone, fax machine, copier, PC/laptop, and other miscellaneous office equipment.
- Regular attendance in accordance with established work schedule is mandatory.
- You may be asked to continue performance during inclement weather or other conditions when others are not permitted to work
- No regular travel in support of this contract, however ad-hoc travel may be required
- Employment is contingent upon obtaining all required certifications within the timeframe specified in a waiver by the government (if applicable) and maintaining required certifications through the duration of the contract. Failure to obtain/maintain required certifications will result in disqualification for this position and could result in termination.

Estimated Compensation
- $160,000 - $175,000
Individual salaries are determined by a variety of factors including but not limited to employee's experience, skills, education, industry, location, company size, and overall market demand.
