Ampirical's Substation Engineering Division has recognized national expertise in the planning and design of new substations and high voltage electrical switchyards. Job Summary : The Substation Site Engineer collaborates within a multidisciplinary team to develop efficient and reliable site, drainage, and access designs for substations. Responsibilities include creating site-related drawings in compliance with customer specifications, standards, and local codes, while ensuring cost-effectiveness, durability, and constructability. The engineer will lead, mentor, and guide less experienced staff and oversee all phases of substation site design for electrical utility projects, including permitting and supporting construction activities. What We Offer : We provide a competitive compensation and benefits package, including: Salary range: $100,000 - $150,000, based on experience and qualifications Semi-annual profit-sharing bonuses Medical, Dental, and Vision insurance from day one 401(k) with company match and immediate vesting Paid time off, sick leave, and holidays Flexible work arrangements, including a 9/80 schedule Opportunities for career advancement Additional benefits: Life Insurance, Disability Insurance, Gym Stipend, Tuition Reimbursement, Wellness Program, Pet Insurance, Fertility Benefits Who You Are : Bachelor's degree in civil engineering from an ABET-accredited university 4+ years of experience in site facilities engineering, preferably in Utilities or Energy sectors Proficiency with Autodesk AutoCAD Civil 3D for site design and 2D drawings EIT certification preferred; FE certification required; California PE a plus Duties and Responsibilities : Design accurate civil site plans for electrical substations, complying with standards and codes Perform quality reviews and act as lead engineer or engineer of record with PE Develop site plans, stormwater management, grading, drainage, access roads, and permits Prepare bid and construction drawings, review submittals, and manage project proposals Support construction and travel to client sites as needed Engage in all phases of substation design, including station siting, physical and electrical facilities, structural and foundation design, and permitting for voltages up to 500kV Manage project schedules, costs, and team coordination Maintain standards and specifications, address environmental requirements, and ensure permitting compliance Maintain effective communication across departments and provide technical support Seniority level: Mid-Senior level Employment type: Full-time Industry: Utilities Location: Gilroy, CA and other CA locations with salary ranges and recent postings listed.
