Job Title: Controls Engineer
Job Description
As a Controls Engineer, you will play a vital role in enhancing the performance, reliability, and cost-effectiveness of plant equipment. You will troubleshoot electrical and controls-related equipment downtime events, design and implement safety solutions, and maintain accurate records of plant equipment modifications. You will also research new technologies for plant applications, communicate employee suggestions for improvements, and develop preventative maintenance schedules. Responsibilities
Identify the need for new equipment or modifications to existing plant equipment to improve performance, reliability, and cost savings. Troubleshoot electrical and controls-related equipment downtime events to efficiently resume plant production. Design and implement solutions for plant safety projects. Maintain records of all plant equipment and their modifications, updating technical files to ensure accurate information is on file. Research availability of new technologies and investigate their integration into plant applications. Communicate employee suggestions to the Maintenance Manager for plant improvement and assist in their development and implementation. Work with the maintenance planner to develop electrical preventative maintenance schedules for effective asset life cycle management. Provide status reports and corrective actions to plant management for repetitive and critical maintenance issues. Assist with training and developing maintenance staff skill sets. Conduct root cause investigations on equipment breakdowns. Track reliability metrics to identify improvement opportunities. Assist with interviewing and recommend outside contractors for assigned engineering projects. Essential Skills
Proficiency in PLC programming and troubleshooting. Experience in preventative and corrective maintenance. Understanding of control logix, ladder logic, and electrical schematics. Competency in Siemens programming and troubleshooting. Experience with Siemens Simatic HMI and Wonderware. Additional Skills & Qualifications
Degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent electronics technologies field. Three years of experience in an industrial setting within maintenance or engineering. Ability to read and understand electrical prints and ladder logic. Experience with programming and troubleshooting PLCs, including PLC-5, SLC-500, MicroLogix, and PanelView Platforms. Experience with Drive Setup and Programming, including Drive Troubleshooting, specifically PowerFlex AC drives and Unico Cutoff Servo Drives. Knowledge of AC and DC Motors/Control. Proficiency with AutoCAD and Microsoft Office products. Work Environment
The role involves occasional travel (0-10%) to assess equipment or participate in customer issue resolution. You will work in a warehouse environment with an uncontrolled climate year-round, which is dusty and noisy but within OSHA guidelines. A uniform jacket is provided to maintain cleanliness.
