Fuel Data Engineer, Expert McLean Job Description Fuel is seeking a Data Engineer. The Data Engineer will manipulate data and data flows for both existing and new systems. They will support data extraction, transformation and load (ETL), data mapping, data extraction, analytical support, operational support, database support, and maintenance of data and systems. Candidates will work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment requiring experience with large-scale database development, file manipulation, data modeling, data testing, data quality, and documentation. Duties may include: Research, design, develop, and modify enterprise-wide systems and application software. Develop complex data flows or enhance existing pipelines. Resolve hardware/software compatibility and interface design issues. Conduct investigations and tests of considerable complexity. Research emerging technologies for application impact. Contribute to technical documentation. Troubleshoot ETL problems and support customers. Advise hardware engineers on machine characteristics affecting software. Prepare reports on analyses and project progress. Provide guidance to less-experienced engineers. Serve as a technical team or task leader. Skills and Experience: Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience. 8-10 years of software engineering and ETL experience. Experience with NiFi or Pentaho data flows. Strong organizational and team skills. Knowledge of NoSQL datastores. Experience with Big Data Technologies like Hadoop or Spark. Top Secret clearance with FS Polygraph. Desired Skills: Experience with Java/J2EE, C, C++, SQL, XML, XQuery, XPath, Ruby on Rails, HTML/XHTML, CSS, Python, Shell Scripting, JSON. Knowledge of Windows, Linux, distributed computing, Blade Centers, and cloud infrastructure. Strong problem-solving skills. Understanding of database methodologies. Proactive in process improvement.
