The company has developed an artificial intelligence (AI) powered technology stack purpose-built for commercial trucking and the public sector. The company delivers freight daily for its customers across the southern United States using its autonomous technology. In 2024, Kodiak became the first known company to publicly announce delivering a driverless semi-truck to a customer. Kodiak is also leveraging its commercial self-driving software to develop, test and deploy autonomous capabilities for the U.S. Department of Defense.
We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer with a background in creating reliable and scalable data pipelines and platforms. This person must understand the fundamentals of modern data warehousing, big data technologies, and cloud-based data solutions. The person in this role will be designing, implementing, testing, and deploying data pipelines and/or features for data-driven applications and analytics. The role will work collaboratively across multiple teams to gather requirements, validate designs and implementations, and test the resulting deliverables.
In this role, you will:
Optimize and enhance existing data pipelines and data models to incorporate new data sources and user feedback. Design new data architectures and data models, including schema definitions and data transformations, and implement such features using various data processing / ETL technologies. Research and design new data pipelines for new use cases and implement such pipelines and backend logic using Python, C++, TypeScript or other relevant programming languages. Utilize a variety of AWS technologies such as S3, Glue, Athena, Redshift, Kinesis, EMR, DynamoDB, and Terraform. Interact with a variety of data sources including databases, APIs, raw data, and/or processed sensor data, and other data streams. Collaborate with Data Scientists, Software Engineers, and Operations to understand end user requirements and deliver robust data solutions. Develop and maintain data quality checks and monitoring processes to ensure data accuracy and reliability. Qualifications: Strong technical background as evidenced by BS, MS, or equivalent experience, in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related engineering discipline. 5+ years of experience building scalable backend data pipelines and/or intuitive data platforms with significant scale and performance. Solid understanding of SQL, NoSQL, and related data technologies. Recent experience with Python, C++, TypeScript or similar languages. Experience with ETL processes and tools. Experience with using internal and external facing data APIs. Experience with data profiling and performance tuning for large datasets. Experience with data service performance measurement, observability, and tuning. Experience with ELK (Elastic, Logstash, Kibana) Stack. Familiarity with data streaming technologies (e.g., Kafka, Kinesis). Bonus for experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Kibana, Looker). Bonus for experience in designing data lakes and data warehouses. Bonus for experience with collaborative tools for data governance and lineage. Bonus for experience with real-time data processing. Bonus for experience with AWS PaaS data technologies and services. Great communicator; you must be capable of writing clear, concise, and detailed documentation. Actual starting pay will be based on job-related factors, including exact work location, experience, relevant training and education, and skill level. Please note that the compensation details listed above are base salary only and do not include bonus, equity, or benefits.
California Pay Range
$185,000-$230,000 USD
