Job#: 2076718 Job Description: Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. The Database Engineer III is responsible for key areas including database programming, application/operations support, rotational on-call service, issue resolution, documentation, and departmental support. Additionally, this position: Supports database management activities, including production data modification requests. Gains a thorough understanding of functional requirements for new software requests. Works with Business Systems Analysts to understand and clarify data change requests, reporting requirements, and new database development requirements. Designs, develops, and tests software to meet functional requirements. Performs process analysis and recommends data and structural changes to improve application performance. Practices good software engineering techniques and standards to reduce coding errors and ensure robustness and efficiency. Partners with software team in developing software engineering processes. Works to identify and resolve technical or product problems. Participates in software project meetings and provides status reports. Translates technical designs into working software. Maintains up-to-date documentation for all supported data management processes and reports system statistics. Collaborates with team members and partners with others to ensure successful completion of database development tasks. Participates in code reviews and incorporates feedback. Applies software engineering and Object-Oriented Design principles in creating UML diagrams and technical design documents. Partners with team members and project leads to ensure component design fits within the overall solution. Adopts new techniques and technologies. Participates in training to keep skills current and understands industry best practices. Assists with mentoring and training less experienced IT staff. Participates in after-hours on-call support, responds to alerts, implements resolutions, and escalates issues as necessary. Supervisory Responsibilities: No supervisory responsibilities. Client Responsibilities: This is an internal and external client-facing position requiring excellent customer service and interpersonal skills. Must manage difficult situations, respond promptly, solicit feedback, and meet commitments. Qualifications: BS/BA and 6+ years of experience or equivalent, plus 2 years of SME in relevant areas. Prior PBM or healthcare experience is helpful but not required. Computer Skills: Over 6 years of experience with database design, data mapping, development of database processes using functions, procedures, triggers, views in Oracle, MSSQL, PostgreSQL, Unix shell scripting, and related skills in debugging, tuning, performance optimization, data retention, provisioning, ETL, data modeling, and relational databases. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: None required. Other Skills and Abilities: Ability to work collaboratively, prioritize projects, communicate effectively, and handle multiple concurrent projects. Language Skills: Ability to interpret technical and business documents, communicate effectively, and present information clearly. Mathematical Skills: Ability to perform basic math operations, compute rates, ratios, percentages, and interpret graphs. Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems, interpret instructions, and deal with variables in standardization-limited situations. Core Competencies: Adaptability, analytical thinking, business acumen, customer service, dependability, initiative, problem-solving, and technical skills. Physical Demands: Regular sitting, handling, talking; occasional standing, walking, lifting up to 10 pounds; specific vision abilities required. Work Environment: Moderate noise, potential exposure to electrical shock, with accommodations available for disabilities. Work Location: On-site at San Diego or Tempe, Arizona. Remote work is not an option. Working Hours: Exempt position requiring flexibility, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed. Typical hours are Monday-Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm.
