Senior Data Security Engineer
Location: Remote - EST Hours
Employment Type: 6+ Month Contract
About the Role : Senior Data Security Engineer to lead the design and implementation of data protection strategies across cloud and hybrid environments. In this role, you will be responsible for securing sensitive and regulated data using advanced technologies and frameworks. You’ll collaborate cross-functionally to embed security into every layer of data ecosystem.
Responsibilities
Design and implement Data Security Posture Management (DSPM) solutions to identify, assess, and remediate data risks in real time
Architect scalable encryption strategies for data at rest, in transit, and in use, leveraging KMS, HSMs, and customer-managed keys (CMKs)
Develop and maintain enterprise-wide data classification and tagging frameworks to enable automated discovery and protection
Deploy and manage cross-platform Data Loss Prevention (DLP) policies integrated with Microsoft Purview, M365, endpoints, and cloud services
Enforce least-privilege access models using ABAC, PBAC, and RBAC across structured and unstructured data environments
Partner with cloud, identity, and application security teams to embed data protection into CI/CD pipelines and service architectures
Monitor compliance with global data privacy regulations (., GDPR, HIPAA, CCPA) through proactive audits and reporting
Minimum Qualifications
5+ years of experience in data security engineering within cloud-first or hybrid environments
Strong expertise in DSPM tools and data-centric security architectures
Proven experience designing encryption and key management solutions across the data lifecycle
Hands-on experience with DLP technologies (., Microsoft Purview, Varonis, Forcepoint, Symantec) and their integration across cloud and endpoint platforms
Proficiency in implementing access controls and governance for relational, NoSQL, and unstructured data systems
Familiarity with regulatory frameworks (., GDPR, PCI, HIPAA) and standards such as NIST and ISO 27001
Preferred Qualifications
Industry certifications such as CISSP, CCSP, or other data security credentials
Experience working in large-scale enterprise or regulated environments
Strong communication and collaboration skills with cross-functional teams
