Valvetrain & Timing Drive Design Release Engineer is responsible for engineering activities related to development of Valvetrain and Timing Drive components for gasoline engines. Activities include design, development, testing, manufacturing interface, and failure analysis. The release engineer will be a part of a team of engineers for problem solving, product improvement, cost reduction and other issues as needed The Release Engineer will interact with all areas that touch the release of a component. This will include Purchasing, Supplier Quality, Engine Plants, Design Group, and Parts & Service. Some travel to engine plants and suppliers is required. The Design Release Engineer must be a motivated self-starter, willing to work in a fast-paced environment. Requirements A minimum of a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited school or equivalent. A minimum of 5 years of relevant experience working with design and manufacturing of powertrain components. Valvetrain or timing drive preferred. Understanding of valvetrain/timing drive components and related manufacturing processes, i.e. steel stamping, machining, grinding, heat treatment...etc. Understanding of product development documentation such as, DFMEA and DVP&R Understanding of Mechanics of Materials, Engine cam timing, CAE Analysis, and GD&T Experience in selecting materials and manufacturing methods for mechanical components. Ability to author system/component level requirements Strong interpersonal communication, team/leadership skills/experience Strong oral and written communication skills Strong project management skills/experience Demonstrated understanding of structural analysis and failure modes of complex mechanical systems
