What you will be doing: This individual will be responsible for interfacing with other engineers in the preparation of computer-based models and performing power system studies on utility distribution systems and industrial/commercial electrical power systems, including long/short range planning studies, short circuit, load flow, motor starting, power factor correction, Distributed Energy Resources (DER) impact, load impact and other related studies. This person must be able to self-manage, with a strong conceptualization ability and strong interpersonal communication and organizational skills – including the capability to explain complex technical issues to decision-makers and project teams. Daily/weekly responsibilities can include but are not limited to:
• Participate in both internal and external client meetings. • System modeling, such as steady-state load flows (CYME, Synergi, Windmil, ETAP, SKM etc.) and transient analysis (PSCAD, EMTP, etc.) for utility and industry clients. • DER impact studies • Renewable energy integration application processing • Recommends solutions and best practices for standard and non-standard situations • Perform detailed engineering analyses following standard methodology, criteria, and principles • Actively seek out and encourage identification of new technologies and work practices to reduce operational costs and/or assist in the reduction of potential safety hazards What we need you to have (minimum qualifications): • Master’s degree in Environmental Management, Electrical Energy or other similar related Energy-focused program. • 1+ years of experience in energy system studies What we would like you to have (preferred skills): • Ability to work successfully in a customer-focused, project-oriented environment • EIT or PE registration (or equivalent) • 1+ year of experience with power flow analysis software such as CYME, Synergi, Windmil, ETAP, or other equivalent software packages Prior experience working with or within electric utilities and familiar with the culture • Familiarity with short circuit software including ASPEN, CAPE, or ETAP • Familiar with distribution operation software such as ADMS, DERMS • Familiarity with distribution design and/or drafting in AutoCAD • Use of Python to automate functionality in power system modeling software • Extensive experience with planning, studies, and operations such as transient stability, baseline/injection studies, hosting capacity analysis, contingency analysis, dynamic/transient analysis, NERC MOD and TOP studies, or other study types • Experience with renewable energy generation facility design, such as solar, wind, or battery storage • Excellent written and verbal English communication skills including technical report writing • Familiarity with the various Independent System Operators (ISOs) such as PJM, MISO, CAISO, ERCOT, WECC, SERC, NYISO, NEISO, SPP • Steady-state software experience including PSS/E, PSLF, or PowerWorld • Transient analysis software experience including PSS/E Dynamics, PSCAD, or EMTP
