Join to apply for the Electrical Engineer, Energy Storage role at Redwood Materials 1 day ago Be among the first 25 applicants Join to apply for the Electrical Engineer, Energy Storage role at Redwood Materials You will be an early member of a new engineering team, responsible for driving the electrical design, development, and integration of a new high-power electromechanical product line at Redwood. In this role, you will be responsible for complex systems integration, test engineering, low voltage electronics and power electronics design challenges and ensuring successful project execution. You will collaborate closely with mechanical, firmware, and systems engineering teams. The ideal candidate is highly self-driven, adaptable to a startup environment, and eager to take on both technical and leadership challenges. You’re a leader and a doer, excited about working in a dynamic, fast-paced setting, and want to shape the electrical engineering function within a new department at Redwood. Responsibilities include designing and developing electrical systems for battery processing, recycling, and next-generation renewable energy applications; developing schematics and PCB layouts for battery management systems, power electronics, and control circuits; integrating sensors, power systems, and communication interfaces into battery modules and recycling equipment; performing electrical testing and validation including power cycling, fault analysis, and performance characterization; collaborating with mechanical, software, and process engineers to ensure seamless integration of electrical systems; supporting high-voltage system design including insulation coordination, safety features, and compliance with industry standards; analyzing and mitigating electrical risks including thermal management, EMI/EMC compliance, and failure modes; developing and maintaining documentation including schematics, wiring diagrams, and test reports; working with suppliers and manufacturing teams to optimize electrical components for cost, performance, and reliability. Desired qualifications include a Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical engineering or related field, 3+ years of experience in electrical design, PCB layout, and system integration preferably in battery technology, power electronics, or renewable energy, strong understanding of power electronics, BMS design, and high-voltage systems (400V+), proficiency in PCB design tools (e.g., Altium, OrCAD, KiCad), experience with embedded systems, firmware development, and communication protocols (CAN, I2C, SPI, Modbus) is a plus, hands-on experience with electrical testing, debugging, and troubleshooting using oscilloscopes, multimeters, and power analyzers, familiarity with electrical safety standards and compliance (UL, IEC, ISO), and ability to work in a fast-paced, cross-functional team environment. Physical requirements include ability to perform essential job functions safely and successfully with ADA, FMLA and other standards, maintain regular attendance, work in challenging conditions with PPE, occasional work on weekends, nights, or on-call, and occasional travel. The position is full-time with compensation commensurate with experience.
