JOB DESCRIPTION
Title: Engineer                                                            Department: Engineering Services
Job Purpose Statement:   Performs engineering work in the design, construction, maintenance and operation of water reclamation plants and collection system including collection and analysis of data and information for project scope development, preparation of contract documents, and bidding.  Interface with Project Manager during construction phase of projects.  Direction and coordination of the District’s CMOM program for collection system inspection and maintenance.
Reporting Structure:   Supervisor of Design and Construction.
Job Functions: Supervises, coordinates and conducts engineering studies, tests and analyses; oversees the collection, calculation and compiling of data; conducts research regarding alternative techniques or processes, reviews reports and presents recommendations regarding plant or process improvements; prepares reports pertaining to output, progress and/or operations. Directs and participates in the preparation of engineering designs, layouts and specifications for water reclamation plants and related facilities; assists in the preparation of contract documents; reviews contract submittals for compliance with quality and safety requirements. Interact with operations, mechanical, electrical and process automation personnel to determine and define scope and requirements of project. Locate and contact vendors to establish sources of supply to meet project requirements, prepare purchase requisitions, bid documents, and procurement documents. Assist Project Manager in administration of projects under construction to ensure work conforms to design intent and requirements of contract documents. Prepares internal and external correspondence regarding engineering projects and related inquiries; confers with other sections, technical consultants and contractors regarding project requirements and assists in the resolution of associated problems. Direct and coordinate NSWRD staff activities associated with review and issuance of sewer permits. Supervises, coordinates and maintains records for the District’s collection system engineering efforts including the CMOM Program, responding to sewer/force main emergencies, including after hour calls., performing sewer construction and easement research, and inputting District records and information into GIS.

Job Qualification Requirements
Knowledge:   B.S. degree in Civil, Mechanical, Environmental or Process Engineering.
Experience:   3 years of experience in application of engineering principles is desired or a master’s degree in Civil, Mechanical, Environmental or Process Engineering in lieu of experience.
Machines, Tools, Equipment (Office and Industrial), Software:   Proficiency in use of engineering software tools (AutoCAD, GIS ArcView).
Licenses/Certifications:   Professional Engineer registration in the State of Illinois or ability to obtain within one year of being eligible.
Other:   Valid driver’s license.
The current starting pay rate for this position is $77,754/year.
