Position Summary
Estimator/Sales Engineer at TEC is a critical hybrid role supporting the Developer Services and Civil Support Division. This individual will prepare precise grading and sitework estimates and serve as a client-facing representative, conducting site walks and engaging directly with customers and sales staff. This role bridges technical estimating with customer interaction, ensuring clients receive timely, accurate information and exceptional service.
Key Responsibilities
Estimating
Prepare detailed cost estimates for grading, site development, and civil support scopes using industry-standard software.
Interpret civil/site plans, specifications, and soils reports to develop accurate quantity takeoffs and pricing.
Solicit vendor and subcontractor quotes for materials and specialty services.
Analyze bid documents and develop clear scopes of work for proposals.
Track historical cost data to inform future estimates and improve accuracy.
Support bid review meetings and prepare bid documents for submission.
Field & Client Engagement Conduct site walks alongside sales representatives, project managers, and clients to assess project conditions and clarify scope.
Answer technical questions from clients regarding grading, site conditions, and proposed solutions.
Provide on-site assessments for remediation, closeout, or value engineering opportunities.
Coordinate with internal teams to align estimating information with project execution plans.
Assist in preparing visual aids, sketches, or documentation to communicate field observations and recommendations.
Requirements Experience: 3-5 years of estimating experience in grading, civil sitework, or related construction scopes.
Proficiency in grading and civil estimating software (e.g., AGTEK, Trimble Business Center, HCSS HeavyBid, or equivalent).
Ability to read and interpret civil construction drawings, specifications, and soil reports.
Strong interpersonal and communication skills for client interactions.
Comfortable performing field assessments and working outdoors in various conditions.
Highly organized and able to manage multiple estimates and field requests concurrently.
Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to project sites as needed.
Preferred Qualifications Experience in erosion control or civil support services.
Familiarity with DOT, municipal, or commercial grading specifications.
Background working for a grading contractor, civil contractor, or developer-focused construction firm.
Bilingual (Spanish/English) is a plus.
