Job Description
Harlem Children’s Zone (HCZ) — a world-renowned education and poverty-fighting organization based in New York — seeks an enthusiastic, dedicated, and mission aligned Systems Engineer with the Information Technology Department.
The Systems Engineer will bring a passion for the mission of Harlem Children’s Zone: break the cycle of intergenerational poverty with comprehensive, on-the-ground programming that builds up opportunities for children and families to thrive in school, work, and life.
The Systems Engineer will be a key member of the Infrastructure team, reporting to the Assistant Director of Infrastructure, and will play a vital role in supporting both HCZ and Promise Academy's technology ecosystem. This position is responsible for implementing, maintaining, and optimizing our multi-platform environment that includes Microsoft, Apple, and Google technologies. The Systems Engineer will work collaboratively with both the Infrastructure and IT Support Services teams to ensure seamless operation of our systems.

Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field preferred
- 5+ years of experience in systems engineering or systems administration roles
- Strong experience with cloud platforms including AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud
- Demonstrated experience supporting and managing Microsoft and Apple ecosystems in an enterprise environment
- Experience with identity management systems, particularly Entra ID and JAMF Connect
- Proficiency with mobile device management platforms including JAMF, Intune, and Autopilot

Technical Skills
- Advanced knowledge of Windows Server, Active Directory, and Microsoft 365 administration
- Strong understanding of macOS and Apple device management using JAMF
- Experience with Chromebook administration and Google Workspace
- Familiarity with networking concepts including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and VPN technologies
- Knowledge of virtualization technologies (VMware)
- Understanding of security best practices, including access control, encryption, and threat mitigation
- Scripting abilities in PowerShell, Bash, Python, or other automation languages
- Experience with backup and disaster recovery solutions and practices
- Be well-versed in migrations of applications, code, and data onto cloud platforms.
- Design and implement solutions for streaming data ingestion and processing.
- Experience in Data Warehousing, Business Intelligence, application modernization, data lakehouse implementations, or Cloud projects.
What You'll Do
Systems and Cloud Services
- Design, implement, and maintain cloud infrastructure across AWS, Azure, and Google Cloud platforms
- Manage and support Entra ID (formerly Azure AD) authentication systems, group policies, and security configurations
- Configure, maintain, and administer JAMF Connect for Mac authentication, ensuring secure and seamless user experience
- Collaborate with the Systems Administrator to maintain and optimize JAMF, Autopilot, Intune, and Google for device management across Apple, Microsoft, and Chromebook environments
- Support and troubleshoot Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace email and collaboration services
- Implement and manage VMware virtualization technologies and server infrastructure
- Monitor system performance, capacity, and availability, and proactively address potential issues
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, analysts, and business stakeholders, to understand data requirements and translate them into scalable data solutions
- Design and build data pipelines and ETL processes to extract, transform, and load data from various sources.
- Develop and maintain data models and schemas within Snowflake/Redshift to support efficient querying and analysis.
- Ensure data quality and integrity by implementing data validation and cleansing processes.
- Design, build, and optimize data pipelines using Snowflake and cloud tools.
- Implement ETL/ELT processes for data extraction and loading from various sources, including Qualtrics.
- Monitor data pipeline performance and troubleshoot issues.
- Create and maintain documentation.
- Evaluate emerging data technologies.
- Optimize Snowflake configurations.
Security and Compliance
- Collaborate with the infrastructure team to implement and maintain security protocols, access controls, and data protection measures
- Ensure systems adhere to organizational security policies and industry best practices
- Assist in developing and implementing disaster recovery and business continuity plans
- Collaborate with the Cybersecurity Specialist to conduct regular security audits and vulnerability assessments
- Stay current with emerging security threats and mitigation strategies
Integration and Automation
- Develop and implement automation solutions to streamline IT operations and reduce manual intervention
- Create and maintain system documentation, standard operating procedures, and technical guides
- Design and implement solutions that integrate our diverse technology platforms
Support and Collaboration
- Provide technical support for complex system issues that escalate from other IT teams
- Work collaboratively with the Assistant Director of Infrastructure and other IT team members to develop and implement technology solutions
- Assist in training technical staff on new systems and technologies
- Contribute to the evaluation and testing of new technologies that may benefit the organization
- Participate in on-call rotation to provide after-hours support for critical systems when needed
Certifications (Preferred)
- Microsoft certifications
- JAMF Certified Administrator or JAMF Certified Tech
- AWS Certified Solutions Architect or equivalent Google Cloud certification
- CompTIA Security+ or equivalent security certification
