Location: Raleigh, NC (27603) OR Charlotte, NC (28202)

Work Schedule: Hybrid - Mon-Wed in Office, Thurs-Fri Remote

Salary Range: ~ +/- $100,000--$140,000/year

We are seeking a motivated Transportation Planning Manager to lead our Planning Team and make a difference in state and municipal transportation projects.

Position Summary:

As a Transportation Planning Manager, you will provide leadership and direction to our Planning Team, oversee project schedules, and ensure the delivery of high-quality planning services. This role involves managing transportation planners, coordinating with multidisciplinary teams, and maintaining client relationships. You will also play a hands-on role in developing and implementing project strategies, facilitating public meetings, and producing planning documents.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Leadership & Team Management
    • Provide leadership and direction to the Planning Team
    • Assign tasks, monitor project schedules, and oversee team responsibilities
    • Conduct monthly one-on-one meetings with team members to ensure alignment and growth
  • Project Management
    • Develop project strategies, including milestones, planning techniques, stakeholders, schedules, and objectives
    • Coordinate with clients to define work programs, budgets, and deliverables
    • Lead project implementation, ensuring on-time and within-budget completion
  • Technical & Planning Expertise
    • Prepare and complete planning tasks, including reports, surveys, and facilitation of public meetings
    • Conduct field observations and data collection activities as needed
    • Analyze technical problems and devise innovative solutions
  • Client & Team Coordination
    • Collaborate with clients, multidisciplinary teams, and other stakeholders
    • Ensure consistent communication and coordination for project success

Qualifications:

  • Required:
    • Bachelor's degree in Planning or a related field
    • Minimum 8 years of experience in transportation planning with demonstrated proficiency in applying planning techniques across various project types
    • Experience in a multidisciplinary engineering environment
    • Proficiency in GIS software
    • NEPA/SEPA experience
    • American Institute of Certified Planning (AICP) credentials
  • Preferred:
    • Professional Engineer (PE) license
    • Experience working with NCDOT

Additional Details:

  • Hours & Shift: Flexible schedules choose between five 8-hour days or four 9-hour days and a half-day Friday
  • Travel: Occasional travel for public meetings
