What to Expect
The M365 Platform Engineer is responsible for architecting, implementing, and optimizing Microsoft 365 services across the enterprise. This role will be responsible for executing the modern workplace strategy encompassing collaboration, mobility, and compliance and leveraging Microsoft 365 cloud solutions such as Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams, Intune, Azure AD, and Microsoft Purview.
What You Will Do
1. M365 Platform Architecture & Engineering:
Design and oversee the architecture of M365 solutions including Teams, Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, OneDrive, Power Platform, and Viva.
Manage identity and access strategy using Azure AD, Conditional Access, and multifactor authentication.
Drive automation and standardization using PowerShell, Graph API, and platform-native tools.
2. Governance, Compliance, & Microsoft Purview:
• Implement and maintain enterprise governance frameworks using Microsoft Purview to enforce data compliance, protection, and lifecycle management.
• Collaborate with Legal, Risk, and Cybersecurity teams to meet regulatory and internal compliance mandates (e.g. GDPR, HIPAA, ISO 27001).
• Lead deployment of Purview capabilities such as:
o Data Loss Prevention (DLP) and sensitivity labels
o Insider Risk Management , Communication Compliance , and eDiscovery
o The information lifecycle policies including retention, records management, and auto-classification
o Data Map and data classification for visibility and accountability over sensitive content
• Monitor and adapt compliance policies as regulatory needs evolve.
3. Project Management & Stakeholder Engagement:
• Oversee key initiatives including M365 tenant migrations, mergers/acquisitions support, and new feature enablement.
• Act as a technical liaison among IT teams, business units, vendors, and Microsoft Premier Support.
• Translate business requirements into secure, scalable technical solutions.
4. Service Reliability & Optimization:
• Maintain availability, scalability, and performance of all M365 services.
• Define metrics and dashboards for service health, adoption, and cost transparency.
• Lead root-cause analysis and resolution for high-impact incidents.
Qualifications
What You Will Bring
• Minimum 5-7 years' experience in enterprise IT with hands-on experience with M365 services, PowerShell scripting, Exchange Online, SharePoint Online, Teams administration, and Intune/Endpoint Management.
• Experience with hybrid and cloud-only environments.
• Experience with Power Platform (PowerApps, Power Automate, Power BI) is a major plus
• Strong understanding of Microsoft security and compliance capabilities including Purview, DLP, Conditional Access, and Defender for M365.
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, or a related field.
• Master's degree a plus.
• Certificate in the Microsoft 365 field is a plus.
• Fluent and current on M365 services, automation, and collaboration trends.
• Working knowledge of ITIL frameworks and ticketing systems like ServiceNow.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement.
• Agile minded with ability to juggle competing priorities and lead in a fast-paced environment.
Work Environment
Employees in this class are subject to extended periods of sitting, standing and walking, and using a computer. Work is performed in an office environment.
The posted salary range for this job takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to skill sets; experience and training; licensure and certifications; geographic location, and other business and organizational needs. Successful candidates may be hired anywhere in the salary range based on these factors. It is uncommon to hire candidates at or near the top of the range.
