Manufacturing Engineer (CNC Support, 3rd Shift)
Type of Position:
This position will begin as a 12-month contract, with strong potential for long-term employment. While the initial term is set for 12 months, there is no fixed end date, and extensions are possible. Conversion to a direct hire role may occur as early as 4 months, depending on performance and business needs.

Overview:
HRU Technical Resources has partnered with a major automotive manufacturer to hire a Manufacturing Engineer to support CNC machining operations on 3rd shift. This position will be responsible for troubleshooting machining equipment, assisting UAW team members with CNC offsets and part quality decisions, supporting machine maintenance and repair, and driving process improvements. The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on CNC experience, problem-solving skills, and the ability to multitask across multiple complex issues in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Primary Responsibilities:
Provide floor support for CNC machining operations, including troubleshooting and fault recovery
Work with UAW hourly team members on CNC offsets and part quality decisions
Support maintenance teams with CNC machine repair and upkeep
Study time, motion, methods, and speeds involved in production to establish standard production rates and improve efficiency
Interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and formulas to determine quality and reliability standards
Review production records and specification sheets to ensure adherence to quality requirements
Aid in planning work assignments considering worker performance, machine capacity, production schedules, and delays
Prepare charts, graphs, and diagrams to illustrate workflow, routing, floor layouts, and machine utilization
Conduct GD&T analysis and utilize Q-DAS and other quality tools to address process issues
Document shift activities and provide detailed end-of-shift notes for handoff to incoming staff
Required Skills & Experience:
Bachelors degree in Engineering required
57 years of relevant manufacturing engineering experience
Strong machining troubleshooting and CNC fault recovery skills
Experience working with hourly UAW teams in a manufacturing setting
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and schematics
Familiarity with GD&T principles and analysis
Experience using MS Office tools (Excel, Outlook, Word) and Q-DAS or similar quality data systems
Strong communication skills and the ability to work cross-functionally with maintenance, production, and quality teams
Preferred Skills & Experience:
CNC programming experience
Experience supporting crankshaft, block, or head machining lines
Problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple complex issues simultaneously
Work Environment / Other Info:
3rd Shift: 10:00 PM 6:30 AM, Monday to Friday. There will be weekend work as needed (divided up among the leadership team).
This role involves a fair bit of overtime (16 hours per week on average). All hours worked beyond 40 in a week will be compensated at 1.5x the regular hourly rate. Additionally, any hours worked on a Sunday after reaching 40 total hours for the week will be paid at double time (2.0x).
