Duties: Develop new research directions in response to emerging priorities for Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory and DOE.Providetechnical leadershipdevelopingtheoretical and computational methods to advance thediscoveryand designofquantummaterials forapplicationsincludingquantuminformation science, high-energyphysics and advanced microelectronics. Develop and support a diverse, international community ofusersthroughtheTheoryofNanostructured MaterialsFacilityat theMolecularFoundry. Publishin peer reviewed journals; contribute to scientific research papers, reports and review articles; present contributed and invitedtalks internationally at professional conferences and research institutions;provide expertiseinservicetotheprofessioninareas relatedtoquantummaterials research.Manage the research funds and resources for research programs on whichthe Career Staff Scientist islead or co-PI.Lead and supervisetheworkofpostdoctoral scientists,technicalstaff,graduateandundergraduatestudents participatinginthisposition’swork.Developstrongworkingrelationsand coordinationwithStaff and Faculty ScientistsworkinginMSDand at theMolecular Foundry. Providementorshipof students, postdocs and early-careerscientists,consistentwithLBNL’svaluesand principlesofIDEA.May telecommute. Position requires20%domesticandsometimesinternationaltravel.
Benefits :Thisfullsalaryrangeofthispositionisbetween$215,856to$305,111peryeardependingupon candidates’fullskills,knowledge,andabilities,includingeducation,certifications,andyearsofexperience.
Requirements: Employer willaccept a Ph.D. degree inMaterials Science, Materials Physics,or related field and2yearsofexperienceinthejobofferedorinamaterial science-relatedoccupation.Positionrequires:
1.Experienceinmaterialstheoryandcomputational materialsscienceresearch,includingfunctional and quantum materials;
2.Quantummechanicalandmesoscalecomputationalmethodsformaterialsresearch;
3.Conductingcollaborativescientificresearchandcollaboratingwithresearcherswithdiverse scientific background;
4.Presentingscientificresearchresultstoaudienceswithdiversetechnicalbackgrounds;and
5.Preparationandhandlingofscientificmanuscriptsandreports,oralpresentationsandresearch posters.
