As a Mechanical Engineer 3 in the Engineering and Infrastructure (E&I) department at United Launch Alliance (ULA), you will leverage your extensive experience to ensure the operational readiness of ground support systems critical to the successful integration and launch of Atlas V and Vulcan rockets. You will lead complex projects and initiatives, mentor junior engineers, and provide expertise in the design, analysis, and troubleshooting of mechanical systems. Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Design and Analysis:
- Lead the design and analysis of new and modified facility mechanical systems, including movable platforms, hydraulic systems, and high-bay doors.
Troubleshooting and Investigation:
- Conduct and oversee hands-on troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and failure investigations for mechanical and hydraulic system anomalies.
Project Management:
- Direct and manage engineering projects from conceptualization through to implementation, ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and technical specifications.
Communication and Presentation:
- Create and deliver high-level presentations on project status, technical analysis, and design reviews to internal teams, leadership, and external stakeholders.
Documentation:
- Develop, review, and maintain detailed engineering documentation, including schematics, analysis reports, and operational procedures.
Required Education:
Bachelor
Required Years of Experience:
Minimum of 4 years of related work experience
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's in engineering, or a related technical field from an accredited college or university.
- Minimum of 4 years of professional experience in mechanical engineering.
- In-depth familiarity with relevant industry standards and design codes, such as:
- American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
- The American Institute of Steel Construction (AISC)
- The American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE)
- Advanced proficiency in Computer Aided Design (CAD) software, especially within the Autodesk suite of products.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office software suite.
- This position will require being On-Call which will include working extended hours, weekends, and 2nd or 3rd shifts as necessary to support vehicle processing and launch.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Expertise in using 3D design software, particularly Autodesk Inventor.
- Extensive experience in the heavy industrial sector and/or aerospace launch facilities.
- Proven experience in estimating and scheduling construction projects.
- Demonstrated experience in designing and/or maintaining hydraulic systems.
- Comprehensive knowledge of aerospace facilities operations and ground support equipment design.
