Mechanical Engineer - HVAC and plumbing systems
Employment Type:  Contract through September 26, 2025 (High potential for extension)
Location:  Must reside within 50 miles of any Black & Veatch office in the U.S. and be available to work on-site at least three days per week.
Travel Required:  Yes (10-15%)
Job Summary:
Black & Veatch is seeking a  highly skilled Mechanical Engineer  specializing in  HVAC and plumbing systems  to support a variety of infrastructure and industrial projects. This position is ideal for a  LEED AP certified professional  with at least  7 years of experience  in mechanical engineering for complex building types. The successful candidate must be proficient in  Revit 3D Modeling  and  Bluebeam Revu , as these tools are essential for the execution of this role. The position offers the opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio including  data centers, energy facilities, and industrial buildings  across global locations.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the  engineering and design of HVAC and plumbing systems  in power generation plants, substations, water treatment facilities, and other industrial structures.
Manage and execute projects through both  Design-Bid-Build  and  Conceptual-Bid-Build  delivery methods.
Conduct detailed studies, including:  Energy audits & efficiency assessments, Building code compliance reviews  and  Sustainable design implementations  including LEED certification efforts
Design for a wide range of facility spaces such as: Power Halls, Workshops, Labs, Electrical Centers, Warehouses, Maintenance Areas, and Chemical Storage.
Interpret and apply standards from:  ASHRAE ,  ICC ,  SMACNA ,  ASPE , and  NFPA
Utilize tools such as:  Revit 3D Modeling  for BIM,  Bluebeam Revu  for project documentation and coordination and HVAC heat load calculation software and energy modeling platforms
Review technical submittals and assist with the bidding and procurement process.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
Minimum  7 years  of HVAC and plumbing design experience.
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited program.
Strong working knowledge of:  Revit 3D Modeling  and  Bluebeam Revu  (must-haves), HVAC equipment sizing and system performance modeling and International mechanical codes and U.S.-based standards
LEED AP Certification  required or strong demonstrated experience with  LEED industrial building certification .
Experience with  large-scale water-cooled chillers  is highly preferred.
Proficiency in: Microsoft Office Suite, HVAC modeling tools and Technical documentation processes
