Network Engineer II
We are searching for a Network Engineer II at our Palmer HQ facility.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Engage in engineering planning, design, equipment evaluation, project management, installation specifications, and test & acceptance for MTA's communications networks to ensure cost effective enhancements and upgrades to meet network requirements.
Reporting to the Network Engineering Manager, work in close collaboration with Inside Plant Engineering group, Network Planning, Outside Plant Engineering, Installation, and Operations.
Engineer and implement network enhancements in a cost-effective manner using sound professional business approaches. Perform cost/benefit trade-offs.
Provide engineering and technical expertise and support for both internal and external customers.
Plan, develop, design, and manage network projects in conjunction with MTA capital plan and customer demand.
Evaluate network security issues when designing network and in conjunction with the Information Security Office recommend and implement changes to minimize network security concerns.
Evaluate and recommend new, advanced technologies (both software and hardware platforms) that will be most cost-effective in meeting network service requirements.
Maintain inside plant records and drawings for MTA's facilities.
Initiate positive interface with all MTA departments to facilitate timely completion of work assignments.
Plan overall equipment layouts in central offices and remote facilities. Coordinate growth and maintenance concerns with Buildings Engineering, OSP Engineering, and CO Maintenance.
Projects are engineered according to acceptable industry standards.
Evaluate demand forecasts, sales and market forecasts, mandates, and technology evolution, and be able to apply these requirements to successful network design.
Maintain professional contact with suppliers, vendors, trade organizations and other peer groups to stay current in technology changes and trends affecting the Telecom field.
Effectively research and present technical material verbally and in written form to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Required Qualifications:
REQUIRED AND MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Active JNCIS-SP and JNCIA-Junos certification
Knowledge (gained through work, education, or self-study) in these technical areas: Routing, switching, and firewall systems
Juniper, DSLAM, Metro-E hardware, and configurations
WDM Transport systems
OSPF, ISIS, BGP, and MPLS
AC/DC power systems
Python Scripting
PREFERRED, BUT NOT REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor of Science in Electrical or Computer Engineering
Professional experience in these areas Technical experience in Central Office networking in the telecommunications industry
Working in network planning, design, and implementation
Working with application servers (such as DHCP, DNS, radius, and tacacs) to support various services
Working with access transport and service technologies such as FTTH, VoIP, Pseudowire T1, and DSL
MEF standard based service for Layer2 and Layer3 Circuits
