3.0 SCOPE OF WORK
The purpose of the RFQ is to obtain a Contractor to provide: one (1) Intermediate or Advanced Professional Level Role Network Engineer position to perform the onsite network managed services on an hour-per-hour basis located in Tallahassee Florida. The position will be procured, directed, and managed by the Office of Information Technology to oversee IT-related network projects department wide.
3.1 Network Engineer Responsibilities:
1. Manage and configure changes to the Department's network monitoring tools.
2. Manage ongoing maintenance tasks to include, but not limited to, installing patches, updates, and security fixes to keep the network up-to-date and secure.
3. Manage and configure switches, wireless access points, routers, and various other networkrelated equipment, to include running cable and fiber.
4. Manage and configure changes to firewalls, intrusion detection and prevention systems, virtual private networks, and the development of security policies and procedures.
5. Provide assistance with the configuration and optimization of routers, switches, and access points to ensure efficient and reliable operations.
6. Provide assistance troubleshooting and resolving network-related issues and outages.
7. Monitor network performance and provide the department with weekly reports, due by Friday each week, providing insights into the health of the network, its capacity, and utilization.
3.2 Qualification and Experience: • Pass a State of Florida criminal background screening in accordance with section 19.0 of this RFQ. • Current industry certification in networking, such as Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA), Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), CompTIA Network+, or Juniper Networks Certified Internet Associate (JNCIA), among others. • Per the STC, a minimum of three (3) years of IT work experience in infrastructure/network environments performing network engineering (hardware and/or software), design, planning and implementation.
3.3 Skills and Competences: • Excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group of individuals including, but not limited to, the following: executives, managers, and subject matter experts. • Excellent technical writing skills, including the ability to write complex reports, plans, and briefings. • Strong organizational skills. • Understand how to maintain the confidentiality of records in accordance with Chapter 119, Florida Statutes, and Department policy. • Have a deep understanding of networking technologies, including LAN, WAN, routing, switching, firewalls, VPNs, and wireless networks. Selected Candidates will be required to pass a network knowledge exam prior to meeting with the contract manager. • Be well-versed in implementing and managing security measures, such as firewalls, intrusion detection systems (IDS), intrusion prevention systems (IPS), and virtual private networks (VPNs). • Being adaptable to utilizing network monitoring tools and analyzing network performance metrics to identify and address issues proactively. • Have the ability to communicate technical concepts to non-technical individuals, understand client requirements, and provide timely updates and reports.
3.4 Work Schedule
The work schedule is subject to prior approval by the Department's Contract Manager. Telework will be considered for a well-qualified candidate. Some activities will require onsite work. For this reason, full-time telework is not an option for this role.
