Job Summary

This position is for an experienced Mechanical Engineer for the Brunswick Nuclear Plant in Southport, NC working in the Mechanical Design Engineering department. Our department is responsible for the preparation and development of engineering solutions that include risk reduction, equipment obsolescence, and plant modernization. Employees at this level solve problems in engineering areas of specialization with close supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop new and existing skills and to develop their ability to work with greater independence as time progresses. They have knowledge of fundamental engineering concepts and theories and exhibit sound technical judgment. They will develop mechanical engineering specific solutions in support of design change packages for power plant equipment upgrade projects, including, but not limited to, HVAC systems, condensers, pumps, valves, piping, heat exchangers, hydraulic systems, turbines, pressure vessels, and other mechanical equipment. Individual will prepare Engineering Change (EC) packages, calculations, specifications, procedures, and other technical documents. Will also perform independent reviews of engineering products prepared by their peers. Current qualification at a nuclear utility as a Modification Engineer under an INPO Accredited Program and knowledge of Passport or Nuclear Asset Suite for design and work order development is highly desirable. Experience in the Operations department is considered a desirable trait as well. Individual will be required to obtain qualifications as a Modification Engineer, Calculation Preparer, and Design Verifier prior to working independently. Selected individual will function as the Lead Technical and/or Responsible Engineer for various assigned projects as a member of a larger project team.
