/ Objective:As an Optical Applications Engineer, you will be in the forefront, working with customers to find solutions that will enable their next-generation designs. These customers use our products in machine learning, medical, industrial, automotive, mil/aero, high-performance computing and test and measurement equipment. Each day is different and a new opportunity to learn more and make a difference.The salary range for this position would be in the range of $120 - $150K per year and is commensurate with experience + plus generous Samtec bonuses paid three times per year in February, August and late fall. Essential Functions & Responsibilities:
Engage in discussion with customers and respond to direct technical inquiries
Provide technical support to customers in a variety of different fields (signal integrity, power integrity, firmware, thermal, schematic and optical performance) to enable the design-in of Samtec optical products.
Maintain expertise in Samtec’s optical products (., FireFly Embedded Optical Modules) and recommend solutions for customer needs.
Provide customer system design feedback to both marketing and engineering
Provide on-site customer and trade show support as needed
Understand industry-standard protocols to position Samtec solutions effectively.
Collaborate with sales, FAEs, and customers to ensure product adoption and relay feedback to engineering/marketing.
Create and update technical documentation (data sheets, application notes).
Deliver product training and presentations to sales teams and customers.
Provide oversight of junior staff members and interns when necessary.
Suggest future products based on trends and customer input.
Some travel may be required as global conditions permit
Create application notes for internal and external use
Desired Skills / Experience
3+ years in optical module engineering or technical support. 5+ years is preferred.
Customer-facing technical support or sales experience.
Strong technical and verbal/written communication skills.
Knowledge of opto-mechanical/electrical design and optical transceiver protocols.
Must be able to sit for more than 90 consecutive minutes, and not suffer from any sensory deprivation and/or paralysis of the limbs.
Education
Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.
