Scope of Position
Concurrently with the product development team, work to define, develop, troubleshoot, and deliver new optical products and manufacturing processes for precision optics which meet all technical requirements. This position will primarily support the Precision Optics (PO) and Laser Optics (LO) manufacturing groups with product and process development responsibilities. This position interfaces with both the development group and the plant engineering and operations groups.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
Lead and implement DF/X tools to optimize product development.
Minimize production costs through design alternatives and cost estimates.
Participate in Preliminary and Critical Design Reviews (PDR/CDR).
Conduct risk assessments and manage risk reduction activities.
Specify and develop manufacturing capabilities, tools, fixtures, and equipment.
Create and maintain process documentation (e.g., work instructions, flow charts).
Ensure prototype and pilot build quality; train manufacturing personnel.
Protect intellectual property and stay updated on manufacturing trends.
Assess manufacturing capability gaps and recommend improvements.
Design fixtures/tools using Creo CAD software; set up and operate production equipment.
Experiences/Education - Required
BS in Optical, Mechanical, or Manufacturing Engineering, or related engineering degree
5+ years’ years industry experience, preferably in the field of optics
Knowledge of the manufacture of optical components and optical materials
Experience with process development in an optics shop environment
Knowledge of plano and spherical polishing
Knowledge of optical metrology equipment including interferometers, profilometers, & autocollimators
Aptitude for precision hands-on optical and mechanical skills
Strong communication skills including written, verbal, and formal presentations
Knowledge of optical material and coating interaction with high power lasers at UV wavelengths a plus
10% travel, domestic & international. Typical travel includes training, networking opportunities, customer visits, conferences, tradeshows, and benchmarking activities as required.
Experiences/Education - Desired
Experience in precision machining and measurement including CNC equipment and programming; Use of G-code and experience with MasterCam a plus
Experience using 3D solid modeling software; solid modeling of fixtures & tools using Creo CAD software
Knowledge of optical material and coating interaction with high power lasers at UV wavelengths a plus

The range for this position is $83,750.00 - $115,156.00 assuming full time status. Starting pay for the successful applicant is dependent on a variety of job-related factors, including but not limited to geographic location, market demands, experience, training, and education. The benefits available for this position are dependent on hours worked and may include medical, dental, vision, 401(k) plan, pension plan, life insurance coverage, disability benefits, and PTO.
