Job Summary

Implements data and analytics capabilities and platforms including the data management and integration capabilities, enterprise reference data, and analytics platforms across WBA. This position will play a key role in the design and implementation of new and existing platforms to drive and realize data strategy.

Job Responsibility:

  • Drives best practices for code quality, testing, and documentation within the data engineering team.
  • Develops and leads the design, development and implementation strategy for highly complex, visible, scalable, efficient and resilient data pipelines, storage solutions, and ETL processes to support both batch and real-time data processing needs.
  • Integrates data from a variety of sources, including those with high-complexity or in need of specialized expertise for import, assuring adherence to data quality and accessibility standards.
  • Designs data infrastructure for scalability, availability, reliability. Ensures that data pipelines are scalable, repeatable and secure. Improves data consistency and integrity.
  • Designs and develops highly complex and large scale data structures and pipelines to organize, collect and standardize data to generate highly complex insights and address reporting needs.
  • Writes highly complex ETL (Extract / Transform / Load) processes, designs highly complex database systems and develops tools for real-time and offline analytic processing.
  • Ensures that data pipelines are scalable, repeatable and secure. Improves data consistency and integrity.
  • Integrates data from a variety of sources, assuring that they adhere to data quality and accessibility standards. Designs data infrastructure for scalability, availability, reliability.
  • Evangelizes technical / business approaches and new or enhanced technical tools. Reviews and recommends the right tool and technology to deliver solutions objectively. Evaluates new technologies for continuous improvement.
  • Works closely with data scientists and analysts to optimize data access and performance for analytics and reporting.
  • Interacts with internal and external peers and management to share highly complex information related to areas of expertise and/or to gain acceptance of new or enhanced technology / business solutions.
  • Creates highly visible and robust technical design documents and supporting materials.
  • Stays abreast of industry trends and best practices in data engineering and recommends strategies for continuous improvement. Provides thought leadership to embrace modern data science and data analytics as a critical enabler for business decisions.
  • Guides and mentors a wide range of audiences. Provides guidance regarding complex analytical approaches and iteration of algorithms.
  • Develops and maintains documentation for data processes, workflows, and system architecture.

External Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree and at least 8 years of experience in data engineering; or graduate degree in a technical discipline with at least 4 years of experience in data engineering
  • At least 6 years of experience working with SQL
  • At least 4 years of experience with REST API development
  • Experience establishing and maintaining key relationships with internal (peers, business partners and leadership) and external (business community, clients and vendors) within a matrix organization to develop strategies that meet department goals within budget and timelines.
  • At least 4 years of experience working with programming languages such as Python, Java, or Scala, and experience with data processing frameworks such as Apache Spark, Apache Flink, or Hadoop.
  • Experience interacting at the Executive level and presenting to all levels of an organization, including the C-Suite level.
  • Experience working with distributed systems, cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP), and containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Experience using analytical and problem-solving skills to troubleshoot complex data issues and drive effective resolutions.
  • At least 5 years of experience contributing to financial decisions in the workplace.
  • At least 5 years of experience in direct leadership, indirect leadership and/or cross-functional team leadership.
  • Willing to travel up to/at least 10% of the time for business purposes (within state and out of state)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience deploying Python applications
  • Experience with Azure application deployment
  • Experience with messaging systems such as Kafka or Azure Event Hubs
