QuantumScape is seeking a Principle Mechanical Design Engineer to join our growing team to support the design and development of critical process equipment. The position will focus on hands-on hardware design and development with the goal of identifying scalable concepts for volume production .We are a fast-growing energy storage technology company, located in San Jose, California working on a fundamental disruption in the field of energy storage. We seek to change the paradigm in energy storage by developing a completely new class of electrical energy storage device . This role includes the creation of mechanical designs to accomplish specific process goals, iterative hands-on design / verification, and the emphasis on scalable equipment design. You will work with other engineers and scientists and will be responsible for driving and completing assigned projects through all stages of the design process, including specification, design, prototyping, assembly and testi ng. Responsibili ties• Coaches and mentors the team, setting methodologies that inspire and motivate the t eam.• Independently, develops and implements concepts for range of significantly complex product issues and engineering soluti ons.• Technically lead and/or execute engineering projects and spearhead research and development of new technologies, as appropri ate.• Problem identification and troubleshooting a wide range of significantly complex engineering probl ons.• Specify the development, design, or modify engineering layouts/schematics and/or detailed drawings/specifications of significantly complex s cope• Solves unique and complex problems with broad impact on the business; requires conceptual and innovative thinking to develop solut ions• Problem identification and troubleshooting a variety of difficult mechanical prob lems• Define, coordinate, perform, and document engineering test rep orts• Perform engineering analysis of difficult s cope• Design and execute experiments to evaluate new tools/processes and bring them to our production line• Work with a team to root cause and address problem statem ents• Communicate results to the broader team Functional Knowl edge • Design responsibilities for mechanical systems and equipment design function, develops and implements concepts for range of significantly complex product issues and engineering solutions, lead and/or execute engineering projects/prog rams.• Additional responsibilities include, technical mentoring as required within the engineering group, help professional and personal develop ment.• Regarded as the technical expert in automation components, linear guides, rotary actuators, robots, end effectors, dispense, vacuum and complex mechanical assemb lies.• Plan and Execute DoEs to characterize boundary conditions and optimize process for manufacturability and qua lity.• Automation equipment design and development experience - High speed automation, robotic, vision, material handling, conveyors, PLC, HMI, etc.• Experience with supplier management and collaborating with remote engineering t eams.• Leads projects with notable risk and complexity; develops the strategy for project exec ments:• Requires a Bachelor’s degree and 10+ years’ experience, Master’s degree and 8+ years’ experience, or Ph.D. and 6+ years of relevant industry experience. Preferred degree(s) in Mechanical or Aerospace Engine ering.• Knowledge with Inventor, AutoDesk Vault PDM, or equivalent PDM/PLM systems and in GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Toleran cing).• Experience with Solidworks, Unigraphics NX, ANSYS, CFD, COSMOS• Ability to work well individually and in a team driven envir onment• Excellent hands-on troubleshooting of mechanical and automated s ystems• Excellent communication skills, and a positive at titude• Travel: 5-10% of th e Time Title: Principal Mechanical Engineer QuantumScape is on a mission to transform energy storage with solid-state lithium-metal battery technology.
