Job Description: Parsons is seeking a highly talented Principal Tunnel Engineer to join our team based in Washington-DC, New York City, Boston, or Detroit (hybrid work model)! This role involves working on tunnel, shaft, and support of excavation design for transportation, water, wastewater, and CSO projects both nationally and internationally. Compensation is to be determined based on experience and credentials. This is a hybrid remote role, allowing you to work from home 2-3 days per week. What You'll Be Doing: Perform complex tunnel design tasks, ensuring efficient and accurate engineering work. Conduct complex 2D and 3D structural analyses and prepare design calculations. Perform soil-structure interaction (SSI) analyses for underground structures and support of excavation. Analyze durability and design mitigation measures for underground structures in corrosive environments. Assess construction impacts and develop mitigation strategies. Check design calculations performed by team members. Develop structural details and construction plans using Microstation and AutoCAD in collaboration with drafters and designers. Prepare geometric layouts, construction specifications, and material quantity calculations. Commit to quality and continuous improvement through innovation and creative thinking. Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with employees, clients, and stakeholders. Required/Desired Skills: At least 10 years of relevant underground structural design experience. MS Degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on structural or geotechnical engineering (PhD preferred). PE licensure is required. Proficiency in modeling and designing underground structural systems using 2D and 3D finite element software (e.g., Plaxis, STAAD.Pro, SAP2000). Working knowledge of design codes such as ACI, ASCE, AISC, ASTM, AWWA. Familiarity with MS Office, industry-standard structural analysis software, and AutoCAD or Microstation. Willingness to work in a team-oriented office environment. Excellent verbal communication skills. Strong aptitude for learning advanced design skills.
