About Ammobia Ammobia is on a mission to revolutionize the ammonia industry. We are a seed-stage startup developing Haber Bosch 2.0 – a next-generation ammonia synthesis process enabling cost-effective and clean ammonia production. Our proprietary swing reactor system operates at 10x lower pressures and achieves 4x higher conversions than the current state of the art, allowing economical production at any plant scale or energy source. Clean ammonia will support ammonia’s growing role in a decarbonized world, addressing sectors like chemicals, fertilizers, and heavy-duty transportation. We are supported by leading climate tech organizations including Starlight Ventures, the US Department of Energy, Collaborative Fund, Third Derivative, Forbes 30u30, and more. Job Description We are seeking a motivated and creative Process Design Engineer to design and implement the process system around our proprietary swing reactor. You will play a key role in designing Ammobia's reactor system and integrating it into various ammonia plant configurations. This role is ideal for an experienced process engineer seeking high impact in an early-stage startup, valuing teamwork, data-driven decisions, and rapid iteration. Successful applicants will have most of the following: Responsibilities: Design, simulate, and implement process and control schemes for our swing reactor system Develop and perform complex dynamic simulations of the reactor system, including reactors, separation systems, and auxiliary equipment Convert dynamic system models into steady-state interpretations for broader process modeling Build PFDs, P&IDs, and control narratives for engineering design and fabrication Collaborate with reaction engineering and other process engineers to design an integrated, optimized system Develop and implement techno-economic models to evaluate reactor system costs and tradeoffs Qualifications: 5+ years of experience in an industrial setting PhD or equivalent experience Experience building dynamic process models and modeling unit operations Experience designing control systems for dynamic chemical processes Deep knowledge of mechanical systems (fixed and rotating) for plant operations Linking simulation models with experimental and plant data Experience in plant process design in energy, O&G, or chemicals Proficiency with flowsheeting and modeling software (e.g., Aspen, gPROMS) Excellent communication skills Self-motivated, proactive, and team-oriented Willing to relocate to SF Nice-to-have Skills: Experience with cyclic reaction or separation processes (e.g., TSA, PSA) Modeling reactors, especially gas-phase catalytic reactors Building system optimization models for renewable energy-driven processes Cost estimation experience using Aspen or public data Experience in ammonia synthesis, cracking, or separations Startup experience Experience in chemical engineering firms or technology licensing Salary range: $100,000 - $200,000 per year. Benefits include: Competitive equity grants Healthcare, dental, vision, life insurance, 401k Gym benefit Team social events Paid time off, including holidays between Christmas and New Year Who we are We are a passionate team of scientists and engineers valuing teamwork, accountability, open communication, and rapid iteration.
