Job Details
The Process Engineer is responsible for driving process improvements in current manufacturing operations and assisting in the introduction of new processes into existing or new equipment. This role focuses on optimizing production systems, scaling up new technologies, and enhancing equipment performance to improve safety, quality, and operational efficiency. The position requires cross-functional collaboration, hands-on troubleshooting, and the application of chemical engineering principles to address complex manufacturing challenges.
Essential Functions Champion safety in all activities, including daily operations, troubleshooting, and process improvement initiatives related to quality, waste reduction, and productivity. Proactively identify, recommend, and implement process enhancements to improve quality, reduce waste, and increase efficiency. Support the evaluation, procurement, installation, and optimization of new and existing production equipment, with a focus on maximizing reliability and performance. Collaborate with engineering and maintenance teams to assess equipment issues, analyze failure data, and implement recommendations for reliability improvements. Interpret complex formulas, equipment specifications, drawings, and engineering data to optimize process configurations for new products, technologies, and production lines. Work cross-functionally to troubleshoot issues and drive improvements in safety, quality, production throughput, and cost efficiency. Evaluate the maximum capacity of existing equipment and recommend process upgrades to expand production capabilities. Design, implement, and troubleshoot chemical processing systems, including reactors, heat exchangers, filtration systems, and control systems. Operate independently with minimal supervision, coordinating effectively across departments to achieve goals. Maintain an in-depth understanding of both equipment functionality and chemical interactions within manufacturing processes. Partner with R&D, production, maintenance, quality, procurement, and suppliers to support product development and operational needs. Create and update process flow diagrams and P&IDs to reflect current layouts and control systems.
Education & Experience Education: B.S. in Chemical Engineering with 3+ years of related experience, or M.S. in Chemical Engineering with 2+ years of related experience.
Experience: Background in chemical manufacturing and plant operations. Proficiency in capital cost estimation and feasibility studies for plant improvements. Working knowledge of Process Safety Management (including HAZOP, PHA, and MOC). Proven ability to manage multiple projects with shifting priorities. Experience preparing plant layouts and equipment lists. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Skills & Abilities Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and AutoCAD. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities independently. Collaborative mindset with the ability to work effectively across diverse teams. Customer-focused approach with a commitment to delivering high-quality solutions.
