The  Spruance Mylar Site Production Engineer  provides process engineering assistance to plant operations and maintenance with a primary focus on coating and slitting equipment operation and reliability. Resolves significant production, safety, and quality issues. Develop short to mid-term plans to improve performance (includes line upgrading, downtime reduction, efficiency improvements).  Develop and implement consistent and effective tools and methods for process control, consistency, and continuous improvement.  Work with regional and global resources to expand Spruance coating/winding process knowledge and apply this knowledge to improve the Spruance process. The Production Engineer reports to the Operations Manager, primarily supporting operations and maintenance, but may work with any department. They may work in any department. They work along with shift supervisors, specialists, and other leadership teams, including quality and reliability. This is an onsite, in-person position located at: *5401 Jefferson Davis Highway Richmond, Virginia 23234 *The Production Engineer works day hours, Monday through Friday, and is on-call after hours. Responsibilities: Continuously monitors process, product and equipment to detect and anticipate emerging issues. Establish and communicate operating parameters for the 24/7 Team. Engage with 24/7 Team to identify and remove daily execution barriers. Facilitate actions to improve efficiency, reliability, and continuously improve processes in order to improve productivity and reduce cost Collaborates with maintenance team to understand and set priority for equipment repairs. Develop and implement training for the 24/7 and/or Core Team. Engages with unit team and 24/7 Team to identify quality issues with any raw materials and chemicals that need to be addressed with the suppliers Monitors product quality parameters and takes action as needed to keep product in spec Tracks Core performance, losses, Raw Material efficiency and energy usage Ensures proper application of Root Cause Analysis process and corrective action plans Communicates issues or barriers with production schedule Communicate with outside units to share best practices Supports 24/7 team as Subject Matter Expert by developing tools for operations team to improve performance Qualifications: Required BS in an Engineering discipline (chemical, mechanical, electrical, industrial) 2+ years’ demonstrated ability to work safely and effectively in an industrial or manufacturing environment Candidate must possess strong technical, engineering, troubleshooting, and data analysis skills Must have solid interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with all levels of plant personnel, contractors and vendors. Excellent time management skills, with evidence of prioritizing to deliver the right outcomes; highly collaborative in approach; effective in building strong working relationships Proficient with basic computer software (i.e. Microsoft Office, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, Excel) Agility to respond to emerging issues in fast-paced continuous operational unit Experience using process software used for historical data and trending to troubleshoot process upsets, determine root causes and identify reliability defects Desired 2+ years’ experience in a chemical production facility Good mechanical skills and aptitude are a necessity Training and experience with OSHA 1910.119 process safety management standard Demonstrated ability to manage complexity, optimize work processes, and being resourceful Six Sigma or similar statistical quality control experience and certification Experience in ERP's, preferably SAP, usage for material management Celanese is a global leader in chemistry, producing specialty material solutions used across most major industries and consumer applications.
