Summary of Position We are seeking an experienced Production & Operations Engineer to work as part of an integrated project team with asset managers, project managers, subsurface engineers, finance, and technical authorities to develop influencing materials for use with partner OPEX and CAPEX projects and operating strategies. The Production & Operations Engineer will leverage data, technology, and analytics to identify and develop production enhancing opportunities. The role will develop and manage systems and processes to identify opportunities and risks related to operations focusing on areas of flow assurance, downtime/deferment, production chemistry, gas lift design and operation, water injection design and operation, conceptual well completion design, and integrated system modelling in an offshore / subsea context. This role requires strong production operations engineering and modelling experience with the ability to interface and influence the Operator and JV partners.
Primary Job Responsibilities
Review Operator technical, operations, and regulatory documentation and provide technical based feedback
Define safe operational requirements and protocols and evaluate operator plans against those requirements
Model and establish operating envelopes for each well and platform ensuring regular updates to analyze various stages of life and ensuring current operating practices are aligned with the current stage of life (e.g. chemical programs, water injection, gas lift performance, etc.)
Provide operations input for technical teams; support development and operating projects from a Production/Ops Engineering technical perspective during Execute and Operate stages
Participate in project reviews and provide feedback on best practices
Establish working relationship with key positions within the Asset Operator and non-Operating Co-Owners and act as point of contact
Conduct regular technical analyses and modelling of wells, flowlines, and platforms to anticipate future operational problems and recommend areas for improvement or optimization during asset risk and opportunity reviews
Monitor asset production performance daily • Maintain systems to record and code production and injection losses to lead internal technical deferment reviews, support root cause analysis, and recommend projects for improvement
Develop and maintain systems and process to trend and analyze spend data at a category level for both CAPEX and OPEX and compare across assets to identify and recommend areas for potential improvement • Regularly review operator sparing strategy and identify areas of risk or opportunity to minimize potential future downtime
Work with Operator to build relationships that allow participation in root cause failure analysis exercises for major failures and/or downtime events
Participate in operator led HAZOPs, PHA’s, What If’s, and design reviews for operational changes and new projects
Actively participate in project lookbacks ensuring cost, schedule, and performance outcomes are compared to expectations; ensure lessons learned are captured and processes updated for deviations
Drive innovation into the business through better opportunities to use and visualize data; utilize new visualizations to identify and recommend engineering improvements for operations and interventions
Lead well by well reviews with team on a routine basis
Liaise with the Operator and work with the team to influence maximized production by optimizing production and injection well stock
Support preparation of OPEX estimates and downtime predictions for annual budgets and forecasts
Work with operators to gain alignment on startup plans and monitor actual startup operations
Assist in Reclamation & Abandonment planning as needed
Represents the Company at meetings with JV partners, industry forums and government bodies
Seek to understand the plans and motivations of the operator and other joint-venture partners and influence the direction of field activities to improve efficiency, value, and safety
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in petroleum engineering or relevant Engineering disciplines required.
5 to 15 years of oil and gas industry engineering experience, deepwater experience is required, specifically the Gulf region
Knowledgeable of the process and mechanics involved in producing hydrocarbons from wellbore through surface facility and to sale
Proven project management skills, with a solid track record of identifying and developing sound and innovative technical solutions
Proven process modelling capabilities including steady state and dynamic conditions in wells, pipelines, and processing equipment using tools such as OLGA, PIPESIM, HYSIS, Petro-Sim. Ability to integrate process models with existing reservoir models to create and maintain an up-to-date IPMS
Proficiency in managing and analyzing large datasets from production systems (e.g., SCADA, PI, production databases)
Strong analytical skills with experience using tools such as Snowflake, Excel (advanced), SQL, Python, Spotfire, or Power BI
Familiarity with data integration from multiple sources and formats to support engineering workflows and decision-making
Able to structure work around deadlines, compliance requirements, project milestones
Proven track record of success in identifying and solving complex technical problems
Able to recognize and promote operational issues to the appropriate level
Able to work as part of a multi-disciplined team
Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
Passion for Innovation with an entrepreneurial spirit
