The Project Engineer (Ports & Harbors) assists with the planning, coordination, and direction for project management activities to ensure they meet owner needs, specifications, cost, and schedule, from initial project identification through construction closeout. May supervise office/field administrative staff, project/field engineers, assistant project/construction managers, and other assigned staff. In this role you will support The Port of Los Angeles, also known as the Los Angeles Harbor Department, in developing an 80-acre site for depot and container storage facility with a project value of $156M. This is the business container port in the Western Hemisphere. Located in San Pedro Bay, 25 miles south of downtown Los Angeles.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Supports the Construction Manager who is the primary contact and liaison for owner and principle partner entities for the contract, design, systems, procedures and related deliverables
Assists with / Coordinates the development of project specific procedures and documentation, and may consult with Owner on design and construction contracts and related A/E systems for the project
Assists with / Coordinates the Obtaining, maintaining, and management of data, information, communications, and approvals required by project and company requirements between owner, architects, engineers, and other project-related entities
Assists with the representation of owner, project and related parties in public forums and meetings.
Assists with / Coordinates the Management of project controls, cost, and performance activities and procedures, project logistics, organization, systems and project closeout
Helps prepare for, records and assists the Project Manager they lead project meetings to include documentation, administration, and tracking of relevant information and statuses
Basic understanding of the construction / modernization of an office space and a container storage facility and its infrastructure.
May coordinate, direct, and monitor activities of construction management staff, contractors, engineers, architects, and related performing entities
Assists with the management of bid phase services, as may be required by the client
Performs other duties as required
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or equivalent is preferred
Minimum of 5 years of experience supporting public agency, vertical construction of capital improvement projects; Port/Harbor experience is preferred
Design-Bid-Build construction delivery experience is required
Knowledge and application of A/E solicitation, project development, design-phase management, construction estimating, cost, project controls/scheduling, documentation, engineering/construction principles, contracts and delivery methods are required
Basic knowledge of and coordinates contracts, drawings, estimates, and specifications to ensure compliance with construction/project requirements
Strong written and interpersonal communication skills
Strong computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite products, and experience with project-related systems such as Prolog and Primavera are required
Proficiency with various document control systems, as well as new construction and modernization is preferred
CMIT, EIT is preferred
Offered rate of compensation will be based on a variety of non-discriminatory factors, including education, qualifications, experience, and geographic location. The Salary range for this position is $95,000.00-$117,000.00.
