Job Responsibilities

Performs duties as Resident Maintenance Engineer directing facility operations for Jasper Maintenance. Manages maintenance personnel engaged in all phases of highway maintenance operations on state roads, bridges, and right of way. Manages the encroachment permit processes, vegetation management and maintenance contracts. Ensures work performed meets established Strategic Goals in keeping with the unit Business Plan. Manages environmental and occupational safety processes to ensure compliance with SCDOT, OSHA and DHEC guidelines. Adequately manages training needs and equipment needs for unit personnel to perform assigned tasks. Manages the mechanic shop operations. Responsible for accurate and timely submittal of reports. Represents the Department at public hearings and serves as liaison with county and municipal officials. Answers inquiries and requests for service from the public. Responsible for personnel matters such as evaluation, disciplinary actions, hiring, following EEO requirements. Manages budgetary analysis tracking and recommendations for spending. Accountable for the purchasing transactions of the unit. Reviews and provides recommendations for pavement resurfacing and preservation plans for state roads in Jasper County. This includes maintaining all county spreadsheets, processing data, figuring quantities, creating maps, and submitting recommendations. Responsible for unit availability and timeliness during inclement weather and other roadway-related emergencies. Represents the Department at Jasper County CTC meetings. Provides recommendations to committee for resurfacing and preservation plans. Answers inquiries from the committee. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum and Additional Requirements

A bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, or Construction Science and Management and five (5) years of engineering or construction management work experience; or an approved acceptable equivalence.

Physical Requirement: The physical demands for the essential functions of this position involve sitting or standing for extended periods of time. This position may require travel. This position may require bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, climbing, balancing, and kneeling. This position required driving and walking for extended periods, treading rough and uneven terrain, working in close proximity to motoring traffic, and natural environmental hazards. May be required to work outside of normal work schedule, especially during inclement weather and/or other departmental-related emergencies. This position may be exposed to outside environment in all weather conditions and noise.

A motor vehicle operator's license is required.
