In RDPI, we are deploying leading‑edge industrial robotics and customer fulfillment technologies across North American stores. We raise the bar on the speed, quality, and cost of deploying industrial technologies at scale across North America, functioning as the field team that plans, executes, and launches the technologies our design and product strategy partners in RDPI develop. Project durations vary from a few days to several months, with travel across North America. This is a travel‑based role and you will be expected to travel to meet the requirements of your projects across North America, upwards of 75% or more.

Key job responsibilities

Relocation to Amazon Corporate offices in Seattle, Boston, Nashville, or Austin will be required for the role.

  • Support and guide installation of robotics, packaging, and sortation technologies at Amazon fulfillment centers
  • Develop detailed knowledge of the operation of robotic systems and guide installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of these systems both on site and remotely
  • Manage technical ambiguity around integration of work cells in fulfillment centers
  • Collaborate with hardware engineering, technical program managers, product managers, and internal customers including site maintenance and operations teams
  • Travel to project sites and collaborate both virtually and in person to ensure all business stakeholders are aligned on program status
  • Manage day‑to‑day project scheduling and budget management
  • Work on continuous improvement activities to improve the projects in your space
  • Generate and implement continuous improvement ideas around work scopes
  • Lead teams of other engineers on projects
  • Travel to both live warehouses and new construction sites; the scope may vary significantly in length and include heavy travel
  • Travel to project sites across North America, upwards of 75% or more

A day in the life

In this role you will be focused on executing end‑to‑end deployment and managing technical ambiguity around integration of work cells in fulfillment centers. You will collaborate daily with hardware engineering, technical program managers, product managers, and internal customers to ensure the product you are deploying is ready for deployment and capable of achieving the business requirements. You will travel to your project sites, collaborate virtually and in person, to keep all business stakeholders aligned on program status. You will manage day‑to‑day project execution and work on continuous improvement activities. You will spend time with mentors and your manager to develop your professional skills and collaborate among your team to move the needle on the services you are accountable for.

RDPI Tech Deployment is missioned with enabling the delivery of large‑scale automation technologies designed and manufactured by Amazon. The team is multi-disciplinary and consists of Field Deployment Engineers, Controls Engineering, Design for Deployment, Product Single‑Threaded Leaders, and a Program Management Office team, who collaborate on enabling the delivery of new technologies and packaging solutions that delight our customers and improve the safety, quality, and costs within Amazon fulfillment processes. The team is geographically located across four North American hub locations. Our work directly impacts high priority goals set each year for our most senior leadership at Amazon.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or other technical degree or related experience
  • 1+ year’s experience with technical drawings and/or reading CAD models (mechanical and electrical)
  • 1+ year’s experience working on mechanical, electrical, IT networked, or software systems
  • Understanding of data collection, reporting processes, and ability to make data‑driven decisions
  • Ability to read technical drawings and/or CAD models to resolve on‑site clash issues using 3D clash detection reports
  • Ability to troubleshoot robotics systems to resolve escalations including quality hand‑off, live order testing, site acceptance testing, operational readiness testing, monitoring robotics system performance, etc.
  • Ability to read and develop technical documentation and process instructions
  • Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast‑paced environment
  • Willingness to work primarily in a construction or warehouse environment in a field‑based role and travel extensively across the US and potentially internationally
  • Must be proficient in standard office software tools and processes

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in network fundamentals (DNS, DHCP, TCP/IP, routing, switching, HTTP)
  • 1‑3 years of experience working in a field engineering, construction, manufacturing, or warehouse environment
  • Proven experience working on hardware integration or complex mechanical‑electrical or networked industrial equipment. Knowledge of specific robotic equipment (Fanuc, ABB), and Allen Bradley PLC experience
  • Ability to demonstrate past use of data to drive decision‑making processes
  • Ability to take independent initiative when presented with a business need
  • Certified in OSHA, ANSI, or other Automation Safety Certifications. Familiarity with LEAN or Six Sigma, certifications are a plus
