Even if you might not meet every requirement, we strongly encourage you to apply. You might just be the right candidate for us.
We are looking for a Senior Acoustic Engineer II to drive verification of integration approaches and mechanical designs for exterior microphone prototypes. They will also provide guidance and prioritization to acoustic engineers performing acoustic simulations and testing informing mechanical design. This role includes outward facing facets, for example representing Cruise with design partners in sensor integration forums. In this hybrid working arrangement, a baseline of 2-3 days a week onsite is expected.
WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING:
Coordinating with international cross-functional design partners towards integration of microphones.
Development and refinement of sensor enclosures, mounting strategies, and bracketry.
Driving rounds of prototyping, testing, and simulation, and ensuring the results are transferred into 3D and 2D Drawings.
Documentation of acoustically critical KPCs and ensuring 2D designs meet KPCs considering tolerances.
Ensuring sensor performance is maintained in channeling outdoor conditions, through collaboration with reliability engineers.
Managing and communicating mechanical engineering development schedules with component technical leads, program managers and development partners, with awareness to timing and commercial impacts on development partners.
Coordinating experimental approaches when simulation is not appropriate.
Coordinating with vendors to drive to material selection for various acoustically critical sub-components.
WHAT YOU MUST HAVE:
6+ years of experience cumulative in acoustically critical mechanical design.
Experience integrating accelerometers, microphones, MEMS and/or transducers generally, across audible and ultrasonic ranges.
Exposure to design for manufacture, ability to advocate for both acoustic requirements and manufacturability.
Ability to work with international cross functional teams with cultural sensitivity.
Experience collaborating with industrial designers, manufacturing teams, reliability engineers and systems engineers.
A history of delivering functional, aesthetically appealing mechanical design solutions for acoustically critical parts.
Experience with NX and/or Solidworks.
Familiar with GD&T principles.
Exposure to mechanical simulation (COMSOL / Ansys / ACTRAN).
BONUS POINTS!
Experience in the automotive/medical/defense industry and/or acoustic consulting.
Experience with ingress protection standards, testing, and mitigations.
Experience with shock and vibration standards, testing, and mitigation.
An understanding of CPK analysis.
