Allient-Rochester specializes in advanced motion control and integrated automation solutions that serve OEMs across industries such as aerospace & defense, medical, semiconductor equipment, e-mobility & logistics, industrial automation, and packaging. We are seeking an experienced Senior Application Engineer to support our growing drives, controls, and mechatronic integration business. This position will help the successful launch and deployment of Allient Rochester’s new high-performance servo drives and control platforms. The Senior Application Engineer will work closely with customers, product engineering, and business development teams to apply, validate, and support these new technologies in high-performance applications. Responsibilities:
- Lead system-level application engineering for automation and motion control projects.
- Support OEMs and machine builders in applying Allient’s integrated motion solutions, from concept through commissioning.
- Perform system sizing and tuning of servo motors, drives, and motion axes to meet performance and precision requirements.
- Develop, test, and troubleshoot control logic using IEC 61131 programming environments (e.g., Structured Text, Ladder Logic).
- Provide technical support during system integration, factory acceptance, and field deployment.
- Customize and configure motion control software, HMIs, and PLCs as part of turnkey sub-system solutions.
- Collaborate with sales, engineering, and manufacturing teams to ensure solutions are aligned with customer needs and system performance goals.
- Assist in application documentation, test plans, and customer training as needed.
- Python programming experience is a plus, particularly for test automation, simulation, or data integration tasks.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical field.
- 5+ years of experience in automation or motion control system design and implementation.
- Strong background in servo system sizing, tuning, and commissioning.
- Proficient in IEC 61131-3 programming languages (Structured Text, Ladder, etc.).
- Working knowledge of motion controllers, drives, servo motors, and feedback systems.
- Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and customer-facing skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Experience with Python programming is a plus.
- Willingness to travel up to 50%, including time at customer sites and the Rochester, NY facility.
