The Senior Chief Engineer oversees the efficient, safe, and responsible operation of all building systems and equipment while leading the engineering team. This role manages a large portfolio of properties in Northern Virginia, primarily office buildings. The Senior Chief Engineer must be on-site at their designated property and occasionally visit other buildings. This is a salaried position with eligibility for flexible time off, subject to manager approval. WHAT YOU’LL DO Lead and manage engineering teams through senior engineers. Manage multiple major construction projects. Oversee maintenance and continuous operation of all building systems. Supervise engineers and maintenance staff, including hiring, training, coaching, and development. Create and update documented maintenance plans, including preventive, predictive, and reactive procedures. Participate in regular communications with clients and property teams. Lead, create, and manage the engineering budget; participate in overall operating budget processes. Assist in developing a capital improvement plan. Supervise and coordinate contractors; monitor and document their performance. Respond effectively to emergencies and service calls. Organize ongoing technical, safety, and operational training programs. Perform other duties as requested by property management and/or clients. WHAT YOU BRING TO THE TABLE 7-10 years of related experience, especially as a Chief Engineer, Assistant Chief Engineer, or similar role. People management experience. Trade school education, union training, military service, or college education is desirable. Universal CFC EPA certification and licenses such as a DC 3rd license, Virginia Master Mechanical license, or Maryland 3rd license. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, Teams). Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and use ladders up to 30 feet tall. Physical ability to climb, bend, kneel, lift, and drive frequently. Strong customer service and communication skills.
