The Senior Data Center Capacity Engineer at CyrusOne is a critical and strategic role responsible for the precise management, optimization, and monetization of our data center's core resources: space, power, and cooling. Leveraging our advanced Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) platform as the primary tool, this role ensures accurate resource allocation, maximizes billable capacity for rent recovery, and provides granular visibility into client power consumption. This position is vital for maintaining operational efficiency, ensuring revenue accuracy, and supporting seamless client growth. Responsibilities: DCIM Platform Ownership & Administration (Primary Focus):
Serve as the primary subject matter expert and administrator for CyrusOne's DCIM platform, Nlyte Ensure the DCIM platform's data integrity, accuracy, and reliability, including asset mapping, power metering, sensor readings, and connectivity information for all colocation assets Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot DCIM modules, dashboards, reports, and integrations with other operational systems (e.g., BMS, ticketing systems) Lead DCIM platform upgrades, patches, and feature enhancements in collaboration with IT and vendor support Develop and implement best practices for DCIM data entry and maintenance across operations teams Capacity Planning & Optimization:
Conduct real-time monitoring and historical analysis of space, power, and cooling utilization across all data center halls, cages, and racks using the DCIM Develop accurate, data-driven forecasts for future capacity requirements based on sales pipelines, client growth projections, and technology trends Identify and strategize the utilization of "stranded" or underutilized power, space, and cooling to maximize billable capacity and rent recovery Perform "what-if" scenarios and simulations within the DCIM to assess the impact of new deployments and infrastructure changes Recommend and implement solutions for optimizing physical layouts, power distribution, and cooling strategies to enhance efficiency Client Power Consumption & Rent Recovery:
Design, implement, and maintain processes for precise tracking and measurement of individual client power consumption via the DCIM Generate accurate, validated power consumption reports from the DCIM for monthly client billing and reconciliation Collaborate with Finance and Billing teams to ensure alignment between DCIM data and invoicing processes, supporting accurate rent recovery Monitor client power usage against contracted allocations, identifying overages or underutilization, and supporting appropriate action Reporting & Analytics:
Develop and deliver comprehensive capacity reports, dashboards, and key performance indicators (KPIs) to leadership, sales, finance, and operations teams Provide insights into capacity trends, potential bottlenecks, and opportunities for efficiency improvements and revenue growth Support client-facing teams with capacity-related data for proposals, solution design, and ongoing client communication Collaboration & Strategic Support:
Work closely with Sales, Solutions Architects, Data Center Operations, Facilities, and Finance teams to align on capacity strategies and support business objectives Participate in strategic planning for new data center builds, expansions, and infrastructure upgrades, providing critical capacity insights Act as a technical resource for capacity-related issues, providing expert guidance and problem-solving Qualifications: 10+ years of progressive experience in data center operations, capacity planning, or infrastructure management, with a strong focus on DCIM platforms Demonstrable expert-level proficiency with at least one major DCIM software platform (e.g., Nlyte, Vertiv Environet, Schneider Electric EcoStruxure IT, Sunbird dcTrack, etc.) Proven experience with power metering, PDU management, and understanding of electrical distribution within a data center environment Strong understanding of data center cooling principles and technologies (CRACs, CRAHs, hot/cold aisle containment) Experience with data analytics, reporting tools, and database concepts Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills (written and verbal) Ability to work independently, manage multiple priorities, and thrive in a fast-paced environment Familiarity with IT infrastructure (servers, networking, storage) concepts. Experience in a colocation data center environment preferred Knowledge of scripting languages (e.g., Python, PowerShell) for data extraction or automation preferred Experience with financial reporting related to IT infrastructure costs preferred Travel up to 15% Education / Certifications: Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Industrial), Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field DCIM certification or other relevant industry certifications (e.g., CDCP, CDCS) are a plus CyrusOne is an equal opportunity employer.
