We have an excellent opportunity for a Sr. Mechanical Engineer - Advanced Product Development in our Mason, Ohio manufacturing location.
In this position, the successful candidate will perform the following job responsibilities:
Electro-Mechanical design of performance door products based on specifications for performance, cost and appearance. Reviews technical documentation including patents, white papers and technical publications to determine design constraints and opportunities and makes recommendations. Must have some understanding of electrical components and controls design and theory. PLC and VFD experience is helpful. Capable of project management including the use of Gantt Charts for activity-based communication and task management. Design for Six Sigma including tools such as Poka Yoke, DOE and Risk Analysis. Hands-on engineer capable of fabrication and assembly of prototypes with understanding of shop tools such as calipers, micrometers, mills and lathes. Resolve product related issues, including product design, feature enhancements, value engineering, installation, packaging, finishing, samples, displays, instructions, and special applications. Works closely with Marketing, Sales, Production, Quality, and Manufacturing Engineering, and Purchasing. Implement strategic, assigned product engineering projects via the Engineering Change Order (ECO) procedure. Completes other product engineering projects as assigned. Initiate and implement product improvement and cost reduction ideas. Knowledgeable about building standards, building codes, product approval and certification programs as required. Implement product changes and specification changes in a timely manner in conjunction with other functional areas throughout Clopay. Troubleshoot production problems directly related to engineering specifications and bills of material. Create detailed engineering analysis based on testing, experience, scientific theory, and engineering principles for use in the design and application of the product line or new product line extensions. Present results through comprehensive reporting. Train and educate various internal and external customers on product offerings and product specifications. Internal customers include production, marketing, and sales. External customers include customer and dealers. Responsible for developing product cost and capital expenditure data as required. Travel as required to customers, manufacturing plants, suppliers and provide other company representation. Assist sales representatives or customers in understanding product requirements, installation methods, and their proper applications. Makes suggestions on available alternatives.
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology required. Professional Engineer (P.E.) license desired. Minimum of 8 years' prior experience in the building products industry or twelve years' of other product engineering experience, with exposure to various types of manufacturing processes. Prior experience in leading projects, multi-functional project teams, product design and specification required. Effective analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving skills required. Excellent communication and analytical skills with focus on organizational results. Expert proficiency in Excel (highly proficient with complex formulas, functions and pivot tables).
