Role Purpose We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Engineer or Principal Engineer in Control for Power Electronics, e-Machines and Drives (PEMD) to deliver on-going client projects, and to further develop the capabilities of the team. Our Software, Control, and Applications group develops and validates complex control systems for advanced clean propulsion and energy systems, such as xEV powertrains, power electronics, motors, and fuel cell systems. We support customers across the full control development spectrum, from core algorithms to fully validated production software, including ASIL-rated software. In this role, you'll primarily focus on control development for power electronic systems, such as electric machines and DCDC converters, but may also support other technical areas based on workload. Key Responsibilities Technical development of Control Software for Power Electronics, E-Machines and Drives, Leadership to other team members in the delivery of control solutions Supervision of junior team members on assigned tasks. Liaison with wider team members to organise and deliver project activities as required Technical development of control solutions, covering requirements specification, algorithm development, implementation, calibration and validation. Testing of control software, by Model-in-Loop, Hardware-in-Loop & physical testing on dyno and in-vehicle Support the wider PEMD engineering team, contributing to topics including:Power electronic / thermal aspects of power electronics designElectromagnetic / thermal / mechanical aspects of electric machine designMultiphysics optimisation for power electronic systems Interface directly with clients and suppliers on technical issues Reporting of technical status internally and to customers Focus on delivery of projects on-time and on-budget Key Competencies and Experience Degree in Engineering, Control / Electrical / Electronics or similar Fluency in model-based development languages, especially MATLAB-Simulink A sound understanding of motor control theory and practice will be necessary for success in the role Experience developing control systems for power electronics systems Experience providing technical leadership to engineering project teams Excellent English communication skills for frequent interaction with internal and external customers. Regular liaison with customers is required. Some business travel for customer meetings, on-site development support, and visits to other Ricardo sites.
