Why This Role Matters
We are currently looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join the Washington Post Cloud Ops team. This team is responsible for maintaining and supporting our AWS organization and other critical development tools such as GitHub, Datadog, SonarQube, Apache Dev Lake and more. The team provides guidance and support to multiple organizations within The Washington Post, establishing and implementing standards and conventions to guide these teams towards best practices.

How You'll Support the Mission: Architect, build, and manage scalable and secure AWS cloud infrastructure, ensuring optimal efficiency and cost-effectiveness for various Washington Post organizations.
Oversee and provide expert support for critical development tools including GitHub, Datadog, SonarQube, and Apache Dev Lake, ensuring their smooth operation and integration.
Establish, implement, and enforce best practices, standards, and conventions for cloud infrastructure and development tools across multiple teams.
Develop and maintain automation tools and CI/CD processes to streamline operations and enhance the DevOps culture within the organization.
Lead by example, providing technical guidance, mentorship, and support to fellow engineers on cloud architecture and development tool utilization.
Design and implement robust Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery (BCDR) solutions for all cloud environments and supported tools.
Ensure all team software and infrastructure remain current, patched, and secure, proactively addressing potential vulnerabilities.
Contribute to the design and architecture of complex systems spanning multiple teams and products, fostering cross-functional collaboration.
Create and maintain comprehensive documentation of architectural decisions, configurations, and operational procedures for knowledge sharing.
Stay informed about emerging cloud technologies, DevOps trends, and development tools, evaluating and integrating relevant innovations, including AI solutions to improve operational workflows and development practices.
Collaborate with and enable teams to establish strong observability practices by providing guidance on infrastructure monitoring, alerting, and comprehensive system visibility across multiple vendors such as Datadog and AWS, with a specific focus on cost management, observability, and alerting.
Participate in an on-call rotation to ensure the continuous health and performance of production applications.
Skills and Experience You Bring: BA/BS in Computer Science or a related technical field or equivalent practical experience.
AWS Solutions Architect or Professional certification
5+ years' experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) such as S3, ECS, EC2, CloudWatch, CloudFormation, IAM, Lambda, RDS, ElastiCache, OpenSearch, Cost Explorer, CDK, etc.
5+ years' experience architecting and implementing scalable SaaS or Cloud based applications.
3+ years' experience with languages like Java, Typescript, Python, and Node
Familiarity with DevOps best practices such as IAC, CI/CD, and automation.
Experience with DevOps teams that own the full engineering lifecycle.

Benefits may vary based on the job, full-time or part-time schedule, location, and collectively bargained status.
The salary range for this position is:
$119,700 - $199,300 Annual
The actual salary within this range will depend on individual skills, experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements. This position may be eligible for a bonus or incentive program, and a member of the Talent Acquisition team will discuss bonus payment terms and conditions during the interview process.
