Job Summary
We are seeking a Senior Software Safety Engineer to lead and contribute to the development of safe, certified aerospace control systems. This role involves applying advanced safety engineering principles to support software and systems used in high-integrity aerospace applications, including gas turbine engines, propulsion, and electrical control systems. The successful candidate will collaborate cross-functionally to ensure compliance with military and FAA safety certification standards and deliver robust, safety-critical engineering work products.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and deliver system safety and reliability work products, including:
Functional Hazard Assessments (FHA)
Fault Tree Analysis (FTA)
Failure Modes Effects and Criticality Analysis (FMECA)
Common Cause Analysis (CCA)
Perform software/system safety analysis aligned with aerospace and military safety certification standards.
Apply agile development methodologies to create, iterate, and improve safety documentation and engineering deliverables.
Guide and support the team in the application of systems engineering best practices, including model-centric development techniques.
Prepare, review, and validate technical documentation for safety and reliability compliance.
Lead problem-solving initiatives using experience in software, electronics, or mechatronic systems.
Coordinate with customers and cross-functional teams to ensure alignment on certification objectives and requirements.
Provide training and process guidance in safety engineering and development workflows.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or higher in Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical, or Computer Engineering, or Computer Science.
Minimum 5 years of engineering experience in product safety, system safety, or aerospace software development.
Experience with aerospace safety certification, including FAA or military qualification.
Knowledge of and experience with one or more safety and certification standards:
ARP4754, ARP4761, DO-178C, DO-254, MIL-STD-882, MIL-STD-1629, AMCOM 385, IEEE 1633-2016
U.S. Citizenship is required due to government contract eligibility.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in the design or certification of gas turbine engine or propulsion control systems.
Hands-on use of safety and systems engineering tools such as:
DOORS, Cameo Systems Modeler, Fault Tree+, Reliability Workbench
Demonstrated understanding of agile development practices in the context of software or systems safety.
Familiarity with model-based systems engineering (MBSE) and robust design methodologies.
Strong technical documentation and communication skills; ability to present complex safety assessments concisely.
Certifications (if any)
Certifications in aerospace safety, systems engineering, or software reliability (desired but not mandatory)
