About the Role

As a Senior or Staff Back-End Engineer , you'll design, build, and operate core payment and ledger services that process financial movements with precision and audit-level accuracy. You'll work closely with product, finance, accounting, and risk stakeholders to translate complex domain requirements into resilient, low-latency systems, owning the full engineering lifecycle from design to deployment and monitoring.

This is a hands-on, deeply technical role for an engineer who thrives on autonomy, is comfortable with distributed systems, and has a track record of building reliable, production-grade services in regulated environments.

What You'll Do

Architect and maintain event-driven, double-entry accounting services to record transactions (charges, refunds, payouts, fees) with high accuracy and observability. Build and operate distributed payment systems leveraging AWS Lambda , ECS , DynamoDB , and related cloud-native tools. Ensure high system reliability through robust testing, idempotent design, and infrastructure-as-code practices. Translate regulatory, tax, and accounting rules into maintainable software abstractions. Collaborate with cross-functional partners to deliver features that are both technically sound and compliant. Mentor peers, influence best practices, and contribute to a culture of ownership, transparency, and technical excellence. What Were Looking For 510+ years of professional experience in back-end focused engineering roles. Proven experience designing and shipping production-grade payment or ledger systems. Expertise in Python (Go experience a plus) and AWS infrastructure. Deep understanding of distributed systems and data pipelines . Strong tenure in prior roles (3+ years in each of your last few positions preferred). Experience integrating with third-party payment platforms (Stripe experience a plus). History of zero-to-one project delivery in fintech or other regulated industries. Willingness to work onsite in NYC 5 days/week. Bonus Points Experience with Stripe integrations or other major payment processors. Background in high-growth startups or regulated financial services. Contributions to open-source projects in distributed systems or fintech domains.
