The Airborne Systems Business Area within the Defense Sector at Leidos is seeking a Software Engineer to support our mission in our Beavercreek, OH office. This is an exciting opportunity to leverage your skills for the Air Force Research Lab, Air Force Lifecycle Management Center, and other DoD initiatives. Your expertise will play a critical role in developing next-generation solutions through software design, hardware integration, laboratory experimentation, and extensive testing. THE CHALLENGE (primary responsibilities) Design, develop, and maintain mission-critical software for national defense and intelligence-gathering initiatives involving both airborne and ground-based systems. Participate in laboratory, ground, and flight testing to validate software functionality. Document and communicate proposed software solutions within cross-functional engineering teams in a dynamic technical environment. Stay current with state-of-the-art programming techniques and software technologies. Engage in software design and code reviews to promote quality assurance and enhance skillsets. WHAT SETS YOU APART (basic qualifications) A Bachelor's degree and 2-4 years of relevant experience, or a Master's degree with less than 2 years of experience in software engineering, computer engineering, or related field. Additional years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree. Proficiency in programming languages, specifically C++, Java, and Python. Experience with systems integration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of complex issues. Familiarity working in a Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) environment. Effective written and verbal communication skills tailored to various audiences. Able to work independently and collaboratively with minimal supervision. Adaptability to a dynamic work environment with the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. A strong desire to grow and learn new technologies. U.S. citizenship is required. Ability to obtain and maintain a top-secret security clearance. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Preferred Qualifications Active DoD TS/SCI clearance. Familiarity with Agile methodologies, such as SCRUM or Kanban. Experience with Atlassian tools like JIRA, Confluence, and Bitbucket. Background with simulation environments for testing and support. Knowledge of Live and Virtual Constructive environments for complex system analysis and troubleshooting. Understanding of DoD Open Architectures, including OMS and SOSA. Experience with containerization technologies like Docker or Podman. Familiarity with Kubernetes. Experience in developing and deploying applications in offline environments. Strong knowledge of Linux systems. Experience with Unit Testing and Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD). Understanding of IP-based network protocols such as TCP, UDP, and HTTP.
