Vivo HealthStaff is recruiting for a Software Engineer in San Francisco, California. This is a permanent position with salary and benefits.
We are seeking a motivated Software Engineer to join a mission-driven healthcare technology startup. This role is ideal for engineers who are passionate about solving complex problems, eager to contribute across the stack, and thrive in dynamic, fast-paced environments. This position offers the opportunity to help scale a growing product and work closely with experienced leaders in healthcare and technology.
Position Highlights: Hybrid role in San Francisco (3 days per week onsite) Full-time, permanent position with benefits and potential equity Salary range: $150,000 to $185,000, depending on experience Opportunity to work on a product with strong market traction and customer demand Collaborative, mission-oriented team culture Responsibilities: Contribute to both front-end and back-end development efforts across the platform Help define product requirements and write technical documentation Collaborate with designers, clinical stakeholders, and product leads to ship features Participate in QA, debugging, and performance monitoring Support the build-out of internal tools, dashboards, and scalable services Embrace a generalist mindset and take ownership across a wide range of product areas Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or Masters degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field 2-5 years of software engineering experience in a modern development environment Proficiency in at least one modern tech stack or web framework (e.g., Python, Ruby, JavaScript, etc.) Strong communication skills and comfort working cross-functionally Willingness to learn new tools and technologies as needed Ability to work across the stack (front-end and back-end) Preferred Qualifications: Experience in a startup or high-growth environment Familiarity with Ruby on Rails, AWS, or Next.js (not required) Interest or background in healthcare or related mission-driven fields Demonstrated ability to handle ambiguity and contribute to 0-to-1 product development Examples of entrepreneurial or side projects, especially those with customer-facing outcomes Soft Skills: Comfortable with fast iteration and shifting priorities Strong ownership mentality with a willingness to "wear many hats" Eagerness to learn, adapt, and solve real-world problems Thoughtful communicator who can collaborate effectively across technical and non-technical teams Additional Requirements: Must be able to work onsite in San Francisco three days per week
