Software Engineer IV – Data Collection and Engineering
Onsite
Summary:
Our company brings together a world-class team of researchers, developers, and engineers to create the future of virtual and augmented reality, which together will become as universal and essential as smartphones and personal computers are today. In particular, the Virtual Reality Research Audio team is focused on two goals; creating virtual sounds that are perceptually indistinguishable from reality, and redefining human hearing. These two initiatives will allow us to connect people by allowing them to feel together despite being physically apart, and allow them to converse in even the most difficult listening environments.
We are looking for a contract software engineer to maintain and expand the software and systems in our data collection lab in Redmond, WA in order to ensure that the data collection process is efficient, accurate and reliable. You will build software for working with cutting-edge prototype devices and integrating them into our data collection platform.
You will work with a team of audio/video engineers and recording technicians, as well as an international team of software engineers and interdisciplinary audio researchers. You will be expected to work with them to scope and prioritise tasks, and to collaboratively produce high-quality, maintainable software.
Responsibilities:
Developing software to work with cutting-edge prototype wearable devices.
Making the data collection process efficient, reliable and accurate.
Working with recording equipment for audio, video, inertial measurements and other modalities.
Deploying, testing and evaluating upgrades to the distributed data collection platform.
Building and maintaining systems for monitoring system health.
Enhancing tooling for the validation and processing of data.
Working onsite to debug problems and performing root cause analyses.
Working with other engineers to triage issues, design solutions and estimate work.
Promoting best practices across the community of engineers and researchers.
Required:
BS Degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
3+ years of professional programming experience.
Demonstrated proficiency in working with large projects in Python.
Proficiency in Linux and shell scripting.
Skills in maintaining and improving networks.
Experience with cross-platform distributed (RESTful) systems.

Desirable:
Experience working with hardware multimedia sensors.
Working knowledge of audio, image and video formats.
Experience with relational and graph/NoSQL databases.
Experience with software and hardware testing frameworks and strategies.
Working knowledge of React, or similar frontend frameworks in JavaScript.
Experience with systems administration on Windows.
