Sr. Broadcast Engineer The Sr. Broadcast Engineer is responsible for maintaining and improving broadcast systems and providing overall technical support to a 24/7 local news facility. The Sr. Broadcast Engineer is a highly organized, detail oriented, and self-motivated individual with outstanding communication, engineering, and production skills. While the position will be part of the Engineering and Operations team, this hands-on role requires the ability to work closely with production and editorial staff to troubleshoot issues and improve production workflows. The Sr. Broadcast Engineer must be proactive in identifying and executing new projects and covering preventive maintenance and system/workflow upgrades.
Responsibilities Ensure that all technical aspects of the broadcast facility are in working order including troubleshooting, repair, and preventative maintenance of broadcast equipment, computers, and IP networks in a 24/7 news environment.
Ability to rapidly diagnose audio/video system and IT problems and provide alternative solutions if needed to maintain production deadlines.
Participate and contribute to the design, development, and deployment of complex broadcast video/audio, streaming, and IT production equipment and systems.
Troubleshoot day to day production system issues including Video Routers, VizRT Graphics, GrassValley Switchers, video playout and ingest servers, intercom systems, digital audio consoles, and more.
Create processes and workflows to ensure control room crews are supported and live broadcasts run smoothly.
Assist in finding innovative ways to improve on-air production capabilities and workflows.
Enable and contribute to a culture that creates an environment where staff can do their best work.
Our news business is 24/7/365, and this role requires occasional on-call shifts to support broadcast emergencies; occasional overnight or weekend work is required on a project basis.
Qualifications 5+ years' experience in broadcast engineering and live video production with a proven ability to configure and troubleshoot broadcast production systems
Proactive, dynamic, flexible, self-starter with a positive attitude who is able to learn new systems or equipment on their own where required
Must be knowledgeable in all areas of technical production including repair, configuration, and operation of studio production equipment including Broadcast Audio, Video and Control Systems, Video Servers, Network Attached Storage System, RF Systems, Editing, Post Production Systems, and Master Control playout software/hardware
Intermediate computer/IT skills, including experience with networking, subnets, IP configuration, and Windows, Linux, Mac OS operating systems
Experience troubleshooting complex audio, video, and IP signal flows
Experience with Newsroom Computer systems like AP Electronic News Production Systems (ENPS) and associated MOS graphics and playout workflows a plus
Experience with CAD System Drawing
Ability to function well under pressure, i.e. during live breaking news situations
Communicate clearly and ensure that the correct internal and external groups are provided timely updates
Effective oral/written communication skills with the ability to explain technical information to non-technical users
Own tasks and drive through completion
Must be able to lift 50 lbs, be comfortable climbing a ladder, and work effectively in cramped spaces when required
